Match Report - National Finals - Sheffield
Day 2 u14 National Netball Finals - Sheffield
Still on a high from our epic victory v Turnford, we arrived in Sheffield as confident as we could be going into the 1-6 play offs.
Our first game v Milton Keynes Netters was quite evenly matched but we always just trailed and were a bit unlucky that the hooter went as we were about to shoot a couple of times. The final score 23-20 was a respectable outcome against the team who went on to come 3rd in the country.
So, all we needed to do was beat Tameside by 4 goals to make it into the final : ) Unfortunately, we didn't quite achieve this; in fact, we lost 30-7. Tameside were just superb and outplayed us all over the court.
Our 5th/6th place game was a re-match v Woodley. They went ahead quite early on, confident from their victory on day 1 and we struggled to turn over their sleek play. It was only in the final quarter, with some superb shooting from Hannah, that we managed to pull back a bit. The final score of 25-17 was, at least, an improvement on 30-16 from day 1.
Girls - I know everyone gave their best this weekend and that is all that can be asked. We should be very proud to be 6th in the country. I suspect that not many other top teams had such a wealth of talent playing up from u13 and indeed u12. Well done to everyone.
Congratulations to Ribble Valley, who became National Champions in a closely fought match v Tameside.
Thank you to John and Anna for giving up your time to coach us, to Mariana for being such an organised manager, to Bobbie for scoring, to Sarah, Becky and Morag for your medical expertise, to Festival Republic for securing us the most coveted kit at Nationals, to Lisa for sorting out the tshirts and photos and to everyone who cheered from the balcony or via text/Twitter. We are very lucky to have all of your support.
And finally, good luck to our u16s in Essex in 2 weeks. You are an awesome team and deserve to do VERY well : )
