Club Update #18

29/1/2016

PERFORMANCE AND FIXTURES
Some good wins last weekend for teams, follow Twitter for results! The position of many of our teams looks very impressive in the league tables. You can link to these league tables from the relevant team page on the website.

Busy weekend 30/31 January. Five matches on Sunday, Premier, Northern, both U11 teams, and U14B all play. U11 will be training as well! Even busier weekend on 7 February, where we have 8 matches on! All juniors playing except U14B and Premier and Northern again!

Lots of our girls also play at the Regional Round of National Schools on Saturday 30 January, so good luck to them!

CODE OF CONDUCT
Just a quick and important reminder for players and parents/supporters to be familiar with the code of conduct, as set out in the handbook on the website. There are examples of umpires "resigning" because of the attitude of parents towards them, most recently in local junior leagues. It would be embarrassing (and we would probably lose points) if we had a complaint against the club because a parent/player etc was disrespectful to an umpire. Sounds obvious, but I need to mention it!

NETBALL NIGHTS SUMMER LEAGUE
The last two summers, April-September We have successfully  entered teams into this, mostly yr 8/9 and above, which has been great. We are working out of to enter one or two teams....watch this space!

CLUB QUIZ
Thanks to Tim and Jo for organising and to all the parents who contributed to the "spread", food was great! Lovely family evening for everyone, great atmosphere and demonstrates what a good club this is. Make sure you get to the next one!

JETS
Can't write an update without a Jets update! Our squad are off to make history in Birmingham on 31 January, where there will be four games at the Genting Arena and live on Sky. Our players and coaches will be in the spotlight as they face a touch Loughborough Lightning squad. Lots of Club Players/former Club Players in the squad. We also have former players in the Dragons and Team North Squads. Jets play 48 hours later in Sheffield at the EIS, again on Sky, in a home match against Team Bath. Send your wishes through Twitter. Let's get behind the squad #gojets. There are not lots of tickets left for home games, so if you want to go and haven't bought your ticket, get it soon!

RESULTS
Just 5 matches to report this last week. Our young U14 (mostly) Netball Nights team won again on Wednesday, great to see them playing so well against good adult teams. Our WY seniors beat Farsley Celtic on Saturday and retain the 2nd spot. Our young HiFive teams both played on Sunday, with the B team winning and the A team losing, but both teams learning a lot. Our Northern Team won again on Sunday and are currently top.

LOOKING AHEAD TO THIS WEEKEND
Busy weekend of fixtures this weekend. All our Junior teams have matches, so seven in total. Premier and Regional Senior teams have matches on Sunday and WY Seniors have a tough match against Calderdale on Saturday. Good luck to everyone. Thanks in advance if parents have to help with some matches, our coaching resource will be stretched this weekend.

COUNTDOWN TO SUPERLEAGUE
We are less than two weeks away to the start of Superleague, with SuperSaturday on 30 January. Best of luck to Jets with their campaign. Buy tickets at http://yorkshirejets.ticketline.co.uk/ as tickets for many games are now selling fast.

Club Update #16

11/1/2016

RESULTS
Senior WY team won fairly easily on Saturday against Tykes. We're gutted for Kylie, who broke her toe in this match and plays such a prominent role in both Jets and LANC. She did well to coach three teams today in between having her pot put on.  We wish her a speedy recovery. Well done WY senior team, second in the league.

Additionally, our talented U14 secured their first victory in Netball Nights this week, an adult league, this was a great performance and really shows the rate of their development.

Both our U11 teams won today in their club debut, being coached by Anna Carter, who thoroughly enjoyed leading the girls!! Thanks to Anna for prioritising the youngsters, especially in the build up to SuperLeague matches starting! Thanks also to Beccy for coaching the younger U11s who were still at training today. I hear it was a great session.

U14B made a great start to their WY campaign beating Wildcats B. U14A secured a big win against Kingston in their regional league debut. U16 also had a comfortable win against Allus in their opening regional match. Kylie, and her broken toe, coached all three games.

It was a narrow loss for our U12A vs Giants, who are always tough competition. A good win for U12B, with John supporting both teams, thanks John.

Coach Maggie was delighted with her senior regional squad today, who played a competitive and physical game against York, and came out with a 45-20 win. Plenty of juniors in this squad getting great experience and retaining the top of the table position, thanks to the seniors for bringing the juniors on!

Jan led Northern League to secure a convincing win against Chevrons and stay top. Prem had a long trip to Bath and unfortunately lost, although showed lots of improvements and played a very competitive game. Again, we are playing a very young side in Premier League, which is a tough league. Special thanks to player/coach Vicki for the long trek.

CAMPS AND WORKSHOPS
More camps with Jets and Anna Carter have been announced if you want you girls to improve further, follow this link, booking is easy!
http://www.elite-netball.co.uk
Watch out for an exciting residential camp being announced soon, to run in August. Lots of the girls will love it.

JETS TICKETS
We are now just weeks away from out first SuperLeague match, our final squad member arrives from South Africa this week. The pundits are suggesting that this will be the most exciting SL season yet. Jets needs your support and it is a great opportunity for the girls to learn from some of the best players in the country. Visit the link below to get your tickets, before it is too late. The Thunder game already has no reserved seats left!

MID SEASON REFLECTION
We are an ambitious club and are very privileged to have some of the best coaches in the country. We also have a lot of very talented and hardworking players and some dedicated parents. We run lots of teams, and try to deliver extensive quality training. We run a pretty dynamic website and fill your inbox with these regular updates to try and keep people posted with what is going on and to build a good club atmosphere. We offer opportunities to the older girls to support the younger girls and help at coaching, which it a great opportunity. It isn't always easy to get everything right though, because we don't have quite enough coaches and many of our coaches still play at a very high level themselves, and also because we mostly have full time jobs in the real-world as well as running the club! The game is also short of umpires and coaches across the region, which places additional pressure.

It's been a very busy weekend, with well over a hundred girls playing, which is great.  We have had some great performances and results this week and those of us who lead the club are very proud of what is being achieved and grateful to those who are helping. We feel like the club is moving in the right direction and offering the girls great opportunities both on and off court. We've had quite a lot of positive feedback recently, which helps those who make the effort to run the club worthwhile for both coaches and admin. I am also aware though that not everyone will be happy eg with coaching/umpiring/selection/court time/position played etc etc. I've learned to realise that we cannot keep all the people happy all the time! But, we will continue to do our best! Please work with us on this stuff and talk to the coach to work things out, or if things really aren't working out talk to someone about an alternative club if that would be better for you/your daughter's netball.

Do your bit to support the club by buying tickets for the upcoming social, email Tim tim@light-fish.co.uk to buy your tickets. If you want to be more involved in the running of the club, please get in touch.

Have a good week. Our next very busy weekend is 24 January! Watch this space for updates!
