Club Update #23

23/3/2016

Just lots of good stuff to report about Club squads and Club members this week. If there's stuff I've missed, please send it to me and I will use next time. Here goes:

SQUAD SUCCESSES
Our U14A & U16 squads confirmed their qualification for Nationals with important wins in tough matches against other WY teams on Sunday. U14A beat Giants and U16 beat Wildcats. Both squads have one more match to secure their position as league champions, with both having no losses and a massive goal difference advantage. Nationals preparation is well underway. U14 is end May and U16 is end April. More pictures of the squads, including some action shots, will be on the age group pages.

WY SATELLITE ACADEMY
Huge well done to some of our U14 who almost had a clean sweep of their end of season awards, with: Libby Bruce  - Attacker, Molly Dexter - Centre Court, and Georgina Pettit - Player of the Year. CONGRATULATIONS

ENGLAND U17&U19 ACADEMY
Well done to those from the club who have been selected into the National Academy (details are here in a press release http://www.englandnetball.co.uk/news-and-media/latest-news/england-national-academy-players-selected_idb39f4cd7-13ea-4441-8d3c-4d03293cc477)

In U19, we have Rosie Harris, Hannah Gorman, Lexy Shipley, and with Louise Marsden also selected into the "potential" group. And in U17, we have Georgia Pexton. Yorkshire and Humber did well for athletes selected into the programme. Well done on getting through screening, good luck at Easter Camp and thanks to the coaches who have helped these girls achieve this. CONGRATULATIONS

NATIONAL SCHOOLS
Lots of our junior players (and some of our seniors as players and as coaches) were involved in National Schools Competition last weekend, they were particularly with GSAL (all ages) and Woodhouse Grove (U14). It was a very cold and windy day on Brighton seafront, with the girls playing 8 matches in the group stage, a fantastic experience for the girls and very testing for them and their coaches. All the girls did very well, with both schools winning a number of matches in the U14 age group, which is a great achievement.

In U16 & U19, GSAL were National Champions, this double has never been achieved before and is a massive credit to the girls, coaches and school. With both teams completely unbeaten across all ten matches. U19 also taking the defensive record for the day and U16 taking the attacking award of the day.  In U19, our club members involved were: Lucy Stead, Rosie Harris, Louise Marsden and Hannah Gorman. In U16, out club members involved were: Lexy Shipley, Lucy Burgin, Katy Gannon, Jessie Ducker, and Georgia Pexton. Here is a picture of the double champions. The press release is on this link http://www.englandnetball.co.uk/news-and-media/latest-news/national-schools-finals-2016_id612d0a01-f45d-4f5e-ba3a-46ba02598e64. CONGRATULATIONS

Junior matches continue in WY league, and the girls playing in Netball Nights, and WY senior has a couple of games left. Follow Twitter for results.

CAMPS
Visit Yorkshire Jets website for details of easter and summer camps and workshops with Jets players.

NEXT SEASON
We are planing ahead and starting to look at trial dates and training etc, we're interested in people's feedback about what works well and what could be better. Please email me or a committee member, we are a club that continually wants to improve both on court and off court and value the players we have, who serve the club so well.

No matches this weekend and probably no update next week! Have a great Easter break.

Club Update #22

14/3/2016

PERFORMANCE
Mixed results today. Premier lost narrowly and are now in the playoffs to stay in Premier 1, good luck to the team for the play offs. U12A lost narrowly to Wildcats. Big well done to our talented young HiFive teams who won both their matches! Our WY senior team also won on Saturday, and keep their second place slot.

NORTHERN LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Yesterday's win against Grangetown means that our Northern League team are champions, huge congratulations to the squad and well done to Jan the coach. This is a really strong league and so the team have done well.

SENIOR REGIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Today's win against Sheffield Hallam means that we are also Senior Regional Champions, again very big achievement especially since a big part of our squad has been U16. Thanks and well done to Maggie for coaching and to Susie for admin. Thanks also to the senior players who have supported the youngsters during the season.

PLANNING AHEAD FOR NEXT SEASON
We are in the process of planning ahead for next season, eg looking at how many teams in each age group, training times/groupings, coaching capacity, trial dates etc. There is lots of very very positive stuff happening at the club for lots of our players, but we also know that we haven't got everything right for everyone all of the time. From what I hear, I think this is true of most netball clubs, not least because of how they are so reliant on volunteers. May sound like a broken record, but if you can get involved and help, please do.....eg admin, coaching, umpiring etc.

We are always keen to make improvements to the club, both on and off court, so will be talking and listening to people's feedback in the coming weeks. Please feed your ideas in, but also please be prepared to help deliver an idea if you have one!!! We are looking to go for CAPS gold next season and run at least the same number of teams (potentially more).

TRAINING FOR REST OF THIS SEASON
Northern, Premier and Senior Regional Leagues have concluded, but WY senior and age groups continue, with U14A and U16 preparing for nationals. Be great if seniors can continue to train to help U16 preparation on a Thursday. Younger age groups have tournaments to prepare for and continue to play Netball Nights. So, for now the plan is:
- Training as normal Thursday through until the last session on 28 April, other than U12 have a break at Easter on 7 April and u16/seniors have a break on 21 April.

We will keep this under review in terms of numbers at each session, coach availability and viability of each session. Any specific training for age groups will be communicated separately. Helena will communicate with U11 about their Sunday morning sessions.

GOOD LUCK
To all our players representing their schools in National Schools Netball on Saturday 19 March in Brighton. Good luck to all the Yorkshire Schools playing there.
