Update #5 Performance Update

27/9/2015

Read below for performance today and details of a new coach for us.....

Performance
Good start to the season with a largely successful weekend on court. All juniors made a good start in their WY campaigns with wins for U16/U14A and U14B, some very convincing wins. U12 don't play for another couple of weeks. Northern league started with a win over Chevrons and Senior WY league won their game on Saturday too. Our Premier Squad came up against a strong side at The Downs and lost by a few goals, showing how tough this league is, especially when combined with travel.

Big thanks to all our helpers today, some doing it for the first time, some doing the big job of organising travel as well as everything else (Vicki!). A few glitches, but nothing major. I'm sure everything will be smooth next week. We have a very busy set of fixtures next weekend with most teams out. We have everyone affiliated and registered now, thanks Bobbie and Mark. Scores should be on the website. Let's see if we can get some more match reports on the website! Anna is busy completing all the player profiling from today and liaising with Kylie and the other coaches ready for next weekend.

Under 14 player Isabella was injured on Sunday, with her mum who also has her leg on pot! All members of the club are wishing Isabella a speedy recovery and return to netball.

Coaching arrangements for seniors/U16
Unfortunately, Maggie won't be delivering the coaching for seniors/U16 on a Thursday night, because she will be doing SuperLeague coaching. She will retain responsibility for WY and Senior Regional Teams though, which is great.  We have been lucky enough to secure Melissa Hyndman  to cover this coaching session, which will be great for the girls. Melissa is the former Fiji and Wales national coach and is now head of netball at Queen Ethelburga's. Welcome to Melissa who starts with us on 8/10.

Update #4 - The Season Begins

26/9/2015

The season starts this week......

First full set of matches this weekend, with first Netball NIghts last Wednesday, West Yorkshire seniors today and a few junior and senior matches tomorrow. Best of luck to everyone. Let's make sure that the website gets updated with scores and, if possible, match reports!!! Huge thanks to all the coaches who are already working really hard to make sure we get off to a good start this season, we are getting positive feedback about all the sessions, which is great. The two hours for U12 and above seems to be working well. Squad lists will also be on the website this weekend.

Parent Information Meeting
Thanks for the great attendance at the meeting this week. Appreciate Maggie, Kylie and Susie covering their areas and being so informative. Please will those attending pass the info on to those not present. Please use the website and the handbook as your main sources of info! We have most forms and lots more fees in now, thanks. Massive thanks to Bobbie and Mark who have been sorting affiliations, no easy task! Louise will be ordering kit, again this is a big job so thanks.

Volunteers
There were a couple of people came and offered to volunteer after the parent meeting, thanks. We have parent helpers in each age group, which will be on the website next week, which is great. Some other specific jobs - support for treasurer, merchandise, safeguarding and secretary, so that these big things don't just rest with one person. Tim would like a couple of volunteers to help with social. If anyone wants a tuck shop, we need volunteers. If we have any Comms/website experts, that would be great! Email me! Likewise, if anyone wants to learn to coach, get in touch! Club AGM is 8 October.

Seniors
Training this Thursday will be back at GSAL - 7:45-9:45pm, unless you're trialling for SuperLeague (which is at Beckett).

Yorkshire Jets
Given the crossover between club and Jets, here's a quick update. Fixtures have been announced this week and we have announced a major new signing, Stacey Francis, who has 50 England caps and SL titles with Bath. We hope for more exciting announcements in the next few weeks. There'll be some pre-season games announced soon, and we will be expecting support. Watching top flight netball is a great way to learn and develop your own game. You can also sign up for workshops and camps through the Jets website or follow on Twitter or sign up for updates on the Jets website.

Results
Will be in touch tomorrow with results of the weekend. Let's also hope for success in RWC2015 for whoever you support and especially that the two matches in Leeds go well!!

Thanks
Mariana

Update #3 - Let the Season begin

20/9/2015

IMPORTANT PARENT INFO EVENING
Important information evening for parents of athletes, especially in Junior Section (we don't expect U11 parents to attend unless they're particularly interested). It is Thursday 24th September, 7pm, GSAL Studio, upstairs on Sports Centre Balcony. It will only take 30 mins. It will enable you to meet some of the coaches and hear from them about the club and the coaching approach to team and player development. You can hear a bit about some of the important aspects of running a successful club - and especially your role in that. And, for many of you who put that you were happy to volunteer, we will talk a bit about that as well.  We have put it at this time, so that ideally parents from all ages can attend, many whilst their children are training.

WELL DONE
Well done to athletes selected for the country system, the NPL programme, and the Yorkshire Jets athlete development programme - we have lots of athletes who were successful. And many more who trialled well, but didn't quite make it this time. Work hard and have another go next time. Well done to athletes who have recently been on England Camp. We will do a roll of honour for each age group in the coming few weeks.

FORMS AND FEES AND KIT
Thanks to those who have returned these and paid, almost all U12/14/16 and many U11. We have less than half of senior forms and fees. Please bring any that are outstanding on Thursday night. Fixtures start next weekend! Again, thanks to all those have ordered kit. Last chance now, contact Louise maboocock@sky.com if you want anything!

TEAMS
Here is a reminder of the teams we have:
- in Seniors - Premier League, Northern League, Regional League and WY SuperLeague
- in Juniors - U16, U14A and B, U12A. After Xmas we will do an additional U12 team and probably two U11 Hi-Five teams. Our U14 squad is also in the Netball Nights Winter League.
Fixtures start this coming weekend, so follow the results on the website or Twitter.

Let the season begin!

Update #2 - Midweek Special

10/9/2015

A few quick things to let you know.....

NETBALL NIGHTS
Huge congratulations to the many club players who have played in the Netball Nights Sunmer League. We've had two teams, one based around U16 and one based around U14. Both teams have had player/coaches and help from seniors, which has developed them brilliantly! This is a ladies league, of a good standard, where the girls have really had to fight for their placings!

Our A finished top and our B finished mid table. Well done everyone and thanks to the player coaches who had this idea and delivered it.  Some piccies on the website. Our current U14 will now be entered into the same Winter League to help with their development and prepare them for Nationals next May. Good luck!!

FORMS AND FEES
Please bring these tonight. The volunteers base (thanks Bobbie) are working hard to make sure everything is set for the season......please do your bit to help!! Registration for premier and regional needs to be done this week, otherwise we will potentially have points deducted.

TEAM ADMIN AND SQUADS
These will be up on the website probably after this weekend, once most of the late trials are done.

ABSENCE FROM TRAINING
If you're injured or absent, please let your coach know. If injured you should still come to training.

NETBALL WORKSHOPS
Another series of quality workshops coming up, with Jets players/coaches. Selling out fast, but some places still available. http://www.elite-netball.co.uk/events/categories/coaching-workshops/
