Club Update #13 - Festive Wishes

19/12/2015

Picture
Just a few things to note.....

Well done for some great netball in this first half of the season. Most of what we have set out to do has been achieved and gone well, with the inevitable minor hiccup! Thanks to the players for all their hard work and to parents for paying, fetching and carrying and supporting! More to come in the new year!
  • apologies to the U12 players who turned up at Gateways on Thursday and it wasn't open, at least you got to train at GSAL
  • our U11 have their last training session tomorrow prior to beginning their games in January, great to see so many youngsters developing so well!
  • huge congratulations to so many of our players for their achievements recently, into England Squads at various age groups, Yorkshire Jets Squad, Jets NPL Squad, those who are already in Jets ADP, those doing well in their school teams......too many to mention individually!
  • big congratulations to our Head Coach who is now a selector for the National Academy Programme
  • delighted to see our Head Coach of Juniors, Kylie Paynter, selected for Jets and as Vice Captain for her leadership ability, we are delighted. The Club has sponsored Kylie so you will see our Logo appearing on Jets stuff and we will have some tickets to give to the girls
  • don't forget to book your tickets for the Quiz Night, see update 12 for information, it is important to support these club events if you can

In juniors, our U16 and U14A were both WY champions and progress to the Regional Rounds. Our U14B finished a very creditable mid table of the top league. Our U12 finished 3rd. In seniors, we are currently top of Northern League, top of Regional League, second in WY Superleague and we are working our way back up the Premier 1 league (which is the real big girl netball!).

As you know, you will see many of our players in the Jets squad. This year's SuperLeague is being described as the most exciting to date, as there have been lots of changes in teams especially on the back of the world cup.  We are delighted with the group of players we have at Jets, with Stacey Francis as Capt, Kylie as VC, and our super coaching squad.....buy your tickets here http://www.ticketline.co.uk/netball-superleague-yorkshire-jets#bio

So, two last things.......
  • very best wishes to everyone for a great break and all the best for the new year
  • massive thanks to our coaches, Anna, Maggie, Jan, Vicky, Melissa, Rochelle, Kylie, Beccy, John, Lucy, and to others who have helped them - we wouldn't have the standard of play and level of achievement if it weren't for their dedication
  • massive thanks to members of the committee, again without whom there wouldn't be a club, Mark, Susie, Morag, Helena, Louise, Tim, and to the age group helpers and team admins who try and make the coaches role easier!

Club Update #11

22/11/2015

PERFORMANCE
I
n seniors, we are top or close to top in a northern, WY and Regional, with some really strong runs for these teams. Things are a lot tougher in Premier League, where we are currently bottom. U16 confirmed qualification to regional league with their unbeaten run in this league. They qualify with Wildcats. Well done. U14A qualification looks safe with one more match to play. U14B are doing really well in this top league, and let's hope they can go on to win this after Xmas. U12 are mid table with one more match of this league before the more formal part of the league starts after Christmas. U11 have a HiFive tournament in training next week!

SAVE THE DATE
Club social Friday 22 January at St Chads in West Park. More details to follow. Being organised by some great U14/12 parents. Anyone else keen to help, please get in touch with Tim Barber (tim@light-fish.co.uk).

Club Update #10

26/10/2015

Half term training is on this Thursday. Sunday's U11 training next week isn't on. Check calendar if not sure.

Seniors - please make sure that you are keeping a log of how many quarters you play for each team (eg Northern, Regional, Premier), so that you support the coaches and we don't lose points by playing players against the rules.

Busy weekend just gone:
  • WY seniors won
  • Juniors (mostly U14&16) had a full afternoon of netball against different opposition, Grangetown. A brilliant session for different experience and coaches being able to see players in a competitive context, and where the result was less important.
  • Premier Squad lost to Academy
  • Many of our players were in Next Generation SuperLeague Competition at Loughborough, representing Jets. One win vs Mavericks and one loss vs Storm. Another great development opportunity for players.

Next weekend we have just a WY senior game and a Premier game (away). Weekend of 8 November is one of our busiest, with most teams out! Netball Nights team also continue to play most weeks!

Good luck to all our girls playing in tri-region competitions and versatility competitions, or doing the Fun Camp this week. Enjoy the break if you're having one!

Club Update #8 - Results & Roll of Honour

19/10/2015

Narrow loss for premier on Sunday against Oaksway, by just 2 goals. Unlucky, it's such a tough league.  A draw for WY seniors on Saturday, against Farsley Celtic, coming back from 12 goals down.  Wins for juniors, u14B had big win against YMCA, u14A beat Yorkshire Terriers very convincingly as well. U16 faced a strong Wakefield Wildcats, but still managed a win.

Junior roll of honour is online. Thanks to age groups contacts for gathering this and Keeley for collating. Well done to everyone, great to have so many girls from our squads playing in these pathways.

Update #4 - The Season Begins

26/9/2015

The season starts this week......

First full set of matches this weekend, with first Netball NIghts last Wednesday, West Yorkshire seniors today and a few junior and senior matches tomorrow. Best of luck to everyone. Let's make sure that the website gets updated with scores and, if possible, match reports!!! Huge thanks to all the coaches who are already working really hard to make sure we get off to a good start this season, we are getting positive feedback about all the sessions, which is great. The two hours for U12 and above seems to be working well. Squad lists will also be on the website this weekend.

Parent Information Meeting
Thanks for the great attendance at the meeting this week. Appreciate Maggie, Kylie and Susie covering their areas and being so informative. Please will those attending pass the info on to those not present. Please use the website and the handbook as your main sources of info! We have most forms and lots more fees in now, thanks. Massive thanks to Bobbie and Mark who have been sorting affiliations, no easy task! Louise will be ordering kit, again this is a big job so thanks.

Volunteers
There were a couple of people came and offered to volunteer after the parent meeting, thanks. We have parent helpers in each age group, which will be on the website next week, which is great. Some other specific jobs - support for treasurer, merchandise, safeguarding and secretary, so that these big things don't just rest with one person. Tim would like a couple of volunteers to help with social. If anyone wants a tuck shop, we need volunteers. If we have any Comms/website experts, that would be great! Email me! Likewise, if anyone wants to learn to coach, get in touch! Club AGM is 8 October.

Seniors
Training this Thursday will be back at GSAL - 7:45-9:45pm, unless you're trialling for SuperLeague (which is at Beckett).

Yorkshire Jets
Given the crossover between club and Jets, here's a quick update. Fixtures have been announced this week and we have announced a major new signing, Stacey Francis, who has 50 England caps and SL titles with Bath. We hope for more exciting announcements in the next few weeks. There'll be some pre-season games announced soon, and we will be expecting support. Watching top flight netball is a great way to learn and develop your own game. You can also sign up for workshops and camps through the Jets website or follow on Twitter or sign up for updates on the Jets website.

Results
Will be in touch tomorrow with results of the weekend. Let's also hope for success in RWC2015 for whoever you support and especially that the two matches in Leeds go well!!

Thanks
Mariana
