Performance:
Quite a few wins this weekend, though some games much closer than normal especially in juniors. Our WY Seniors won on Saturday. On Sunday, our U14 and U16s both beat Allus in regional league. Our Premier team had an important win against The Downs and our Northern Team beat Shipley. Senior regional lost by a few goals to Sheffield Concord. In WY U12 league, where there is only one division, our A team had a very big win over Twinkles 67-2. Our B team showed a good fight against Hudds Giants A losing 22-12.
Profile
Our U12A team played in the warm up game for Jets on Saturday, showed some great netball and were victorious over Wildcats. Picture is on the website. One of our U12 players, Evie, also won the half time shooting competition. Well done! In Sunday's Jets game, some of U11s presented the player of the match, to Steph Wilson, who is a Leeds Athletic player. What a great opportunity for them.
There's been plenty of profile for netball and women's sport in the media this week with the Jets Launch. Here's the link for the Look North programme that was live from the launch, which was held at Carnegie Stadium. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04vvtcp/look-north-yorkshire-07012015. The Jets bit is about 15 mins in. There is also a good piece with Lauren on Skysports too. Well done to the girls, who did the club very proud this week.
Feedback
Given there were so many matches today, I met quite a few parents, and had feedback via email from matches/training I couldn't attend, so feedback across all ages from U11 to seniors. It is really useful to find out how things are going for people at the club. It was particularly important on a weekend like this where we were fielding so many teams, which stretches player and coaching capacity. Inevitably, there are some people who are pleased with how the club is going and some less so. We will try and respond to that feedback in the next few weeks as best we can with the coaching capacity and other volunteering capacity that we have. In seniors, we will update the squad lists this week so these are clearer and can be used for selection each week to make that as fair as possible. In juniors, we will consider another parents evening to enable people to ask about selection approaches etc. Across the board we will try and use our coaching capacity to cover all matches and training, but sometimes there simply isn't enough to go around.
If you have ideas or suggestions for improvement please make them, particularly if you have the capacity to help support any changes. Like most amateur sporting clubs, we run largely on a volunteer basis, with a few committed coaches and a few committee members working quite hard doing stuff in their spare time. If more people were prepared to help (eg admin etc) or take a qualification to be able to help (eg umpire or coach), then we'd be able to do things better.
Please use the website for information about matches from the calendar (agenda view is best), the handbook and code of conduct and contact details and other useful information.
