Tricky to know where to start! Here goes......
Recent England selections for club members, well done everyone!
- U17 - Rosie Harris, Imogen Allyson, Claudia Heath, Lexy Shipley. Hannah Gorman also selected as potential and joined the recent England camp with others selected.
- U19 - for trip to Australia - Lydia Walker and Jess Shaw selected, with Brie Grierson as reserve
- full squads - Natalie Haythornthwaite for the Trinidad and Tobago test and Sally Butters for the Netball Europe trip.
- in Netball Nights, the ladies league that U14 have played in, Georgia Pexton got Player of the season by being voted player of the match regularly.
We've also had a few of our younger players progressing through the stages of the performance pathway recently, eg being moved from Satellite to County, well done Maisie Bickerton and Lindsey Fowler. The younger athletes are particularly enjoying the camps and workshops, which is really developing their netball. It was fun camp last week and it's boot camp this week!
In U12, 15 teams competed, we were second in the group stage and qualified for the highest group on day 2. We won in QF and SF, but we're beaten in the final by Trafford 11-4. Great achievement to be runners up, well done. Another trophy for the cabinet!
In U14, 55 teams competed, we won all our matches and were top in the pool so qualified for the highest group on day 2. We won in QF and SF, but we're beaten in the final by Royals (from Windsor) by 2 goals. Great achievement to be runners up, well done. Another trophy for the cabinet!
Our WY seniors team played their last fixture this weekend, lost narrowly and it looks like they still finish second in the league.
Just one more Northern match remains on 19 April and that's an important one! Good luck!
Our U14s also did really well in Netball Nights Ladies League, coming 3rd in the top league in Leeds. This has been fab experience for them, they've really developed through the season as they've adapted their game to cope with pressure (as well as hearing some new swear words from some of the teams!). Huge thanks to the coaches who've helped and occasionally played! Kylie, Beccy and Kate, you've made a big difference to the girls! Thanks to Anna for the idea and ambition for the girls to play in this to help develop them.
At SuperLeague, Jets came out on top of Mavericks last night with a 54-50 win, which makes them 3rd in the table, highest ever finish. They play Surrey Storm next Saturday in the semi, and then travel the following week to play in the CopperBox at Olympic Park in either the 1/2 or 3/4 playoffs. Well done to players, coaching team, support team and back room volunteers for an incredible season. Watch this space for the chance to celebrate!
In other news, NPL (Jets U17 squad) have been playing in Newcastle this weekend. Lots of players are from our club and coaching staff too, eg Jan, who coaches seniors and Jo who coached last year's U16. I understand they've finished 3rd in the NPL league, which is great. Well done everyone.
