News Update #24

A lovely day and some great netball played all round the club.

Performance

Another quiet week in our league matches. Prem travelled to Worcester setting off at the crack of dawn unfortunately losing by 9 goals after a bit of a second half fight back but not enough. Battle to avoid relegation still alive at this stage of the season. Squad missed Anna this week, but thanks to Lauren for stepping up as player/coach/captain!

Northern continued on their unbeaten run, winning away in a top of the table clash against Hull Chevrons 44-34. This young team largely U18s coached by Jan Hemsley are league leaders with a goal difference of 357 from 13 matches, in second place Chevrons have a goal difference of 114!!!

Our U11s had a great training session this morning, preparing for a Club Tournament in April, thanks to Becky and Mark.

The U14 West Yorkshire team beat Fusion an amazing 27-7. Well done and thanks Libby. Our Netball Nights team had a tough draw in the cup on Wednesday v Leeds Lightning but came through with a win 39-33, thanks and well done Mark. Thanks to Rochelle and Sasha for guest appearances and Sian for organising!

There was friendly activity too at Ponds Forge, an intense battle for three of our teams against Charnwood Rutland from Loughborough. U14 had guest appearances, some from the U12 squad who did themselves proud in a contest against older athletes but narrowly lost. As with all friendlies the experience and learning is greater than the outcome. Thank you to Lisa Head for coaching.  U16B won 51-30 all players took to court and dominated from start to finish. U16A won 57-49. It was a venture in to top level competition and a taste of what will be faced at National Clubs, five players from the opposition were from U19 Loughborough Lightning NPL. Thanks to Maggie for coaching.

Looking forward
Nine league matches scheduled for Sunday 4th March plus a friendly for the U16A away at Bury and U14A away at Grangetown both are tri matches v Bury and Grangetown. These friendlies are essential in the run up to National finals to prepare our players for the challenges ahead, the Regional competition does not currently provide this level of competition.

Thanks to Mariana and for driving this initiative forward, Louise Boocock for researching kit, Mark Boocock for arranging finances and Lucy Ducker for arranging the additional itinerary.

And finally, best wishes to those recovering from illness or injury. It is that busy time of year when athletes get tired and need recovery. News Update #23

12/2/2018

It’s half term for lots of schools, so not as many matches this week. Wishing everyone away skiing a safe and injury free holiday. Team Admin and Coaching continues despite the quiet period, many thanks to our brilliant, committed team of volunteers.

Performance The week started well with a win for our Netball Nights team who beat Farsley 29-16, they are top of the league with one match to go. On Saturday the West Yorkshire Superleague team smashed Bradford Premier 57-21, placing us second in the league table. Our Mizuno Premier 1 League team [Prem] currently in fifth place, played third in the league New Cambell at home, grinding out a very important win 47-43.  If you want to support our teams other than your own and gain inspiration look at the calendar on our website you may even be playing at the same venue.

Training Sunday morning training is as normal on Sunday, however U11 on Tuesday and U12 on Thursday are having a half term break.   Seniors, U16 and U14 will all be together on Thursday 15th at Leeds Beckett 8-10pm.

Spectating The Vitality Superleague teams are playing again at the weekend Saturday 17th sees games starting at 6pm, the nearest match to see live is Team Northumbria at home v Loughborough Lightning, good luck to our Leeds Athletic Coaches Anna Carter and Maggie Birkenshaw on the Loughborough Coaching team.  Good luck to our atheltes appearing in the U21 fixture for Lightning before the NSL match, and to the athletes competing in NPL U19. Video and photography Please remember the leagues do not allow video and photography of U19s unless permission has been granted by the opposition 5 days before the match, via your club admins or coaches. Each club only has permission for photography in their own club we do not have this information from our opposition. Please remind any relatives and friends who go along to spectate. Sticking to team photos and warm up pictures rather than action shots is best. It is always important to remember that the Club is responsible for the behaviour of its athletes, coaches and spectators, so remember to follow the code of conduct! Thanks!

It will improve your understanding of the game and open up opportunities for paid umpiring in the future, parents and players are equally welcome.  Watch out for more detailed information.

Coaching  Leeds Athletic are keen to develop their own qualified coaches, ask to volunteer in sessions see how you like it and bank financial rewards towards coaching qualifications.
