Our young Netball Nights team topped the winter league off by winning the cup, as well as the league on Wednesday night, well done girls and thank you Mark Boocock and Sian Priestley for coaching and managing this team.
The West Yorkshire Seniors played Calderdale coming out with a good win 54-38. Thanks to Maggie umpiring again!
From the top on Sunday our Prem team were up against strong, recently crowned league winners Oldham losing by 51-62. Great effort girls. Thanks to Francine for player/coaching!
A Northern League team missing a few regulars lost to Brigg 41-47 but they remain comfortably at the top of the league with two matches to go. Good to see Amy returning from injury and a debut from Hannah M.
In the Regional League the U16s beat Chevrons 71-25. This means U16s have qualified for National Club Finals at Nottingham University on April 28/29th, as expected, but amazing achievement. Congratulations everyone involved players, coaches, parents and team admin. I understand Bury and Oldham have both qualified from NW, congratulations to them too.
In Regional League, U14s won 43-10 against Sheffield Concord, so just one game left against Hudds Giants, and the top of the table looks tight for qualification! Good luck to our girls.
The West Yorkshire teams had great results too, the U16s storming through with a win 37-9 v YMCA and U14s had Maggie as a guest coach, to help them to a win 27-12 over Birkenshaw Belles.
On to the U12s now unbeaten 4 out of 4 matches LANC A had another brilliant win 44-3 against Yorkshire Terriers 1. LANC B did a great job beating top of the table Shipley 34-18. LANC D fought hard but lost 17-19 to Yorkshire Terriers 2 great effort from our young aspiring players, with some players appearing in more than one match and some stepping up into new teams! Thanks to Michelle Barker Field for helping to coach, as well as our regular coaches!
Thanks to Anna for taking senior training on Thursday last week, which she was able to do because of the Commonwealth Games break!
Shout out to those who are at various stages of managing injuries.
Well done to those appearing in NPL competition and other friendlies at that representative level.
Did you know most netball leagues we enter are run by volunteers? The leagues have to be accurate, compliant with England Netball rules, deal with facility hire, legal issues, tax complications, be well organised, efficient, produce professional results tables within a small window, handle queries, meet Safeguarding rules, and non-compliance problems.
Our club is also run largely by our committed volunteers, with a range of off and on Court roles from Team Admin to chair/ treasurer/club development etc. So what is involved in getting a team to a match, the coach selects the team of course. Before this, the league tables have been simplified, translated to see just our own matches for up to 14 teams and put on the Google calendar on the website (if you haven’t used it take a look it has all the details of LANC matches). In some junior leagues the umpires are provided in most matches, our administration check if any of our matches need an umpire and source them from our list. In some leagues, umpires have to be provided by the clubs, we do not have strength in this department as we have a history of developing the aspiring player rather than officials, so this job needs contacts who are prepared to help us out. Team admin liaise with the coach, send out the team details squad, venue, time, travel difficulties, parking problems, ensuring all the details are correct and the team, coach and umpire receive the information. This is a big responsibility, it is with much gratitude we say thank you to these valuable volunteers. Please respect and value your team admin they are all doing a brilliant job.
Also a big shout out to Louise Boocock who sits on the West Yorkshire Committee attends all the meetings and ensures Leeds Athletic views are clearly heard.
Thank you to this year’s volunteers and welcome to anyone wishing to take up the mantle next year. Please get in touch with Sian or Susie if you are able to help run the club in any capacity. Anyone with marketing experience is especially needed at the moment. Anyone interested in coaching or umpiring please get in touch.
