News Update #29

13/6/2017

U12 Regional Champions - This week’s update is in recognition of the U12 squad and them becoming Yorkshire Regional Champions yesterday in Sheffield, being unbeaten all day, and rewarding the squad, parents and coach with a great day of netball. A couple of very close games and some big wins. Well done everyone, great achievement. And a demonstration of the strength across all our Junior age groups with success in U11/12/14/16 in recent weeks! Excellent stuff. Huge thanks to John for coaching U12 all season, and for Jo as team admin.

WY Summer League – our WY Summer League team is unbeaten and now goes into the top half of the competition for the last part of the season. Well done everyone, and thanks to Susie for organising, Kirsty/Sarah/Rochelle for helping to coach/support the younger players.  Everyone who has taken part in this league has really enjoyed the matches, as there is less pressure than in the regular season!
Netball Nights – both our summer teams have made a solid start and this is such a good development ground for our youngsters to learn with a range of “young or older seniors”! Watch our social media feeds for the return of some of our well known players!

Final Four – Our Club had its fair share of players/former players (and a coach) represented in yesterday’s Final Four at Birmingham.  Am almost bound to miss someone by naming people, but here goes: current coach – Maggie Brikinshaw; current season players: Lucy Harris, Natalie Haythornthwaite, Jess Shaw, Rachel Shaw. Previous players: Rosie Harris, Natalie Panagarry, Imogen Allison.

Netball continues – in what used to be the “off season”, lots of netball still being played and the “administration” goes on! Today we got the fixtures and all the guidance for National Premier League, where the requirements increase year on year. This year, there is a further expectation around table officials. Becky Harris, who helps with Prem administration, is looking to organise a short course for parents (or any volunteers) who are happy to help “score” in Prem. It will probably be early September. Please get in touch with Becky if you are interested or know someone is. We will not be able to offer these playing opportunities for the athletes unless we have enough volunteers to cover these jobs! Thanks

Camps – as usual, there are camps available through the Summer for a range of ages through Elite Netball. A boot camp, which quite a few of our top junior athletes will be doing, click here http://www.elite-netball.co.uk/events/2017summercamp/ and a fun camp for 9-14 for our younger athletes, click here http://www.elite-netball.co.uk/events/campaug17/.  Some great coaches covering these camps, as ever and a good way to get extra development time on court and learn from different people, both players and coaches.

Pathway – well done to our U13 athletes who were successful in the Yorkshire Pathway recently, big achievement. For those not successful, keep working hard and go again at the next opportunity. Good luck to those trialling soon for U15/17/19/21. And watch this space for other exciting development opportunities coming up.

Young helpers – we have had a couple of enquiries for girls to help coach as part of their DofE award or other similar things, or just to enhance their CV.  Please let Mariana or Susie know if you want to help, we are always after additional volunteering support at coaching sessions!

Age group helpers and committee roles – lots of those who have applied for trials this year are offering to help, so we will look to organise an information evening about the roles available soon and invite those who are willing. This will hopefully give some of those who have helped out this last season a year off whilst someone else has a turn!

Trials – U16 window is closed and we are half way through trials. If there are any exceptional players who missed the trial window, we are happy to receive an enquiry. U14 and U12 trial windows close on 16th June.  We will be advertising for new seniors in the next couple of weeks, particularly where there are strong players who are also interested in developing younger players on court. U11 don’t trial as such, but will start again in September and be sorted into two groups by the coaches.

That’s all for now!
