News Update #11

23/10/2017

Although lots of people are away, here is a quick update, not least because there are some alterations to our normal training programme and because there is plenty of netball activity!

Netball activity

This weekend, we have had players in friendlies, matches, travelling on tour, playing in county/regional playday, and on England Camp! #netballneverstops For those having a break at half term, enjoy! For those staying around, enjoy your netball, I know we will have some athletes on the Leeds Rhinos Camp being delivered by Paul Harper this week.

Training over half term
Training continues over half term. U11 and U12 as normal. On Thursday, there is no training at GSAL. U14/U16 who are available should join Seniors at Beckett 8-10pm. Rochelle will be taking senior training for the next two weeks as Jan is on holiday.

Matches
Our U14 had a good friendly against Chevrons and won. Our Senior Regional squad beat Sheffield Open. Next weekend there is a home Premier League game on Sunday (12:30pm start vs Tameside) and a WY Senior Game on Saturday! Come and support Prem if you can!

Training - Thursday 9 November
Please note that there is no U12 training at Gateways on 9 Nov, because there is a big bonfire event there. Please can athletes go as follows: U12 & U13 to GSAL for 5:45-7:45pm with Libby and John; U14 & U15 to GSAL for 7:45-9:45pm; U16 with seniors at Beckett. This is for one week only, but it will allow the girls to be in a different context with some different players.

Success
In addition to our athletes who are already within the Yorkshire Age Group context at the various age groups, we had a number of our athletes trial at Loughborough Lightning last week. The following athletes were successful: in U21 - Jessie D, Erin H, Chloe S, Chloe E, Anya W, Georgia P, Claudia H; and in U19 - Hannah M and Claudia S. Well done to all, for those not successful, keep working hard, opportunities will come.

Senior training
The girls who will be a part of the LBoro U21 squad will no longer be able to train at Club because their mandatory training is on a Thursday. This is an unfortunate consequence of our athletes playing in various different franchises. Numbers for senior training will still be around the 20 mark, and training will be with Jan with plenty of experienced seniors to ensure that the intensity of training is good. We will keep this under review.

Roll of honour

Team admins will be completing the roll of honour for this current season in the next couple of weeks, this information will be put on the website once completed. Thank you, I hope you find these updates useful to know what is going on across the rest of the Club.

News Update #10

16/10/2017

Performance 7&8 Oct
Mixed set of results in seniors last weekend (7&8 October). Big win for Northern League away at Gateshead, scoring more than 70 goals! Draw for Senior Regional, with a few players making their debut, against Wildcats. Loss for Premier League vs Oaksway, who were the more consistent side.  In juniors, big win for U14A vs Twinkles and narrow loss for our younger U12Cs. Well done to our playing in school teams who qualified for regional round of the National Schools competition. Thanks for our coaches who also organised additional friendlies last weekend because there are so few league games.

Training
Sessions all looking good and intense during the week, everyone working hard. Thanks to coaches for all their planning and delivery. Thanks also to parent helpers for their work to make things run smoothly. Please note that U14 and U16 will be training with seniors in half term week, see Google Calendar for details.

Our Netball Nights A
Squad got their medals this week for winning the summer league, our very young NNB squad also did well in the league. Just one team being entered in the Winter League given that there are a already a lot of netballing commitments on a Wednesday.

Performance 14/15 Oct

This weekend was a busy one, nine fixtures. Win for our WY senior squad on Saturday against Wakefield Wildcats, thanks to the seniors who supported our junior/less experienced players in this win. We had wins across the board in juniors with all three of our U12s out A and B and C and winning, our U16s winning against Shipley and both U14 squads also victorious. A long road trip for our Premier squad who travelled to Bath and lost by 2 goals. Our Northern League team continued their winning streak with a win against HiTech to keep them top of the table.

Leeds Rhinos Netball October Camp
Just a few places left on the Leeds Rhinos Netball October camp with performance coach Paul Harper, book online to get yourself some extra practice and great coaching http://www.leedsrhinosnetball.co.uk/camps/

Code of conduct
Usual reminder to everyone, athletes and supporters, please familiarise yourself with the code of conduct, abide by it, and ask other parents/carers/siblings who are involved to be familiar with it. Whilst we are lucky enough not to have many issues to deal with of this nature, we do have some that could be avoided if people think about the impact their behaviour or comments may have on another child or parent. If in doubt, don’t say it……thanks!

Good luck messages
Good luck to our athletes off on tour at half term, or on England Camp, or trialling at Loughborough Lightning or other SuperLeague franchises.

Results
Some good results for the weekend. Wins for U16 and U14A and U12A. Our U14B lost to the U14A! U12B lost to a strong YMCA side. Northern had a solid win against Sheffield Concord and WY Senior beat a strong HiTech. Last weekend our U12 also played a friendly against Birkinshaw Belles, enjoyed the experience and won. Netball Nights squads continue to do well!

Fees
Thanks, quite a few people have paid this week. Only a few outstanding fees remain. Please can you sort payment, or get in touch with Mark maboocock@sky.com, or athletes will not be eligible for squads.

Well done

Well done to Nat K and Annie J for being named as players of the tournament in a schools competition in Sheffield recently.

Courses

As you all know, most netball only runs on the basis of volunteers, and people being prepared to do their bit to learn new skills etc! Thanks to all those who are helping with administration – hope you’ve managed everything eg submitting results to league and our website/submitting scoresheet, maybe posting teams and results on FaceBook etc. So, here are some good opportunities for learning coming up!
