News Update #14

27/11/2017

Performance Update – we won all our league fixtures this week, from Netball Nights on Wednesday, Senior WY on Saturday, and then Prem, Northern, both U14 teams and U12C on Sunday. Excellent set of results, well done all. You can see the specific results and pictures of all our teams in the Sunday fixtures on our FaceBook page.

Our U16 played a friendly vs Tameside on Sunday, where we had 18 players experience tough matchplay as a benchmark ready for them entering the business end of the season. Some great learning and they will be reflecting individually, together and with Maggie to see what they need to work on. Thanks to everyone who came to support Northern and Premier teams today at Beckett, good support for both teams, including some of our U11s who stayed to watch!

League standings – to spoonfeed those who don’t go and look at league tables, here are the latest standings across the leagues we are in:

In National League Premier 1, we are hanging on in there at 7th, with two tough games to conclude the first set of fixtures! Click Here for the League Table

In Northern League, we are unbeaten, with an excellent goal difference, almost three times as much as the next team! Click Here for the League Table

In Senior Regional League, not many matches played – you only play each team once in this league – but a reasonable position mid table! Next fixture is not until 17th December.

In WY Seniors, who play in the SuperLeague (top) division of WY league, only one loss, so second with a game in hand and predictably close to HiTech. Click Here for the League Table

In Netball Nights Senior League, we are a very respectable 3rd, especially given the young age of our players and usually playing without any seniors to support them. Click Here for the League Table

In the WYJNL (West Yorkshire Junior Netball League), all the results are on this link, just hit the relevant tab. Our young U12Cs are topping the table of the league they are in. Our U12A are top, with our U12B not far behind in 3rd. In U14, our teams are 4th and 5th, but the U14A have a game in hand and are still aiming to qualify for the Regional Round. Our U16A are undefeated champions and qualify for the Regional Round, with a great goal difference. Click Here for the League Table

Training – Club training dates are on the Google calendar, as usual. We will be mixing Thursday night training up again a bit on 30 November and on 14 December, so Maggie will be taking the Senior Session, including some of the U16 squad. Susie will take U15s, with some U14s also moving up. Libby will stay with U14s. Age group admins will be in touch with the specifics of this. Mixing things up when we did it on 9 November worked well, it gives all the players different opposition and enables the coaches to look at different combinations in a different context.

Looking ahead – busy weekends coming up for some leagues, and with some friendlies where we can organise them. We are also in the process of confirming how many junior teams we will be entering into the leagues that start after Xmas. We couldn’t do all this without our coaches and parent helpers, so thanks again. Sometimes it is a thankless task, and you can’t do right for doing wrong, but hopefully most of the time it is worth it! Mostly the athletes benefit and appreciate it!

Injuries - it is that time of the season where we have a number of injuries, so here's some speedy recovery messages to pass onto all those with minor or more major injuries. Follow the advice you're given, take care, keep in touch with your coach, and get back as soon as you can but in a way that is sustainable.

Think that’s all folks for this weekend! Let’s hope we have wins across the board next weekend as well!
Thank you for your continued support for the Club.

News Update #13

Performance - Some good wins last weekend, with Northern, U16, U12 A and WY seniors continuing their unbeaten runs. U14A and U12C both had big wins. U14B lost to another A team in their league. Prem and Senior Regional both lost in close games. This weekend, the only senior game was a Senior WY, which we lost unfortunately. A good day in Juniors. U16 smashed their league with an unbeaten run and straight qualification for the Regional round, well done everyone! U14A has a good win. U14B lost a close game to another A team. All three U12s won their games. Well done everyone. No doubt lots learned!!

Looking ahead -  The next few weeks sees matches for Prem and Northern and WY senior continue. Some junior fixtures are coming to an end eg U16s, so some friendlies being organised! There are gaps for Senior Regional until 17 December) and for some juniors. Our HiFive will be getting ready to enter the league after Xmas!

Our athletes - Credit to all our athletes with so many in various aspects for the performance pathways. Big thanks to our coaches for doing a fab job of developing these athletes. he Roll of Honours for the current season are on the Website now, showing the depth of talent we have across the Club. Good luck to our youngsters who are trialling for District this weekend. Our seven National Academy athletes (Alice, Nat, Annie, Laura, Georgia, Chloe and Anya) have been "enjoying" England Camp in LBoro this weekend.

Spectating -  Opportunities to get England tickets for the test vs Malawi, and for the Quad series. SuperLeague tickets are also on sale now, including some friendlies in December and January. For juniors, watching Prem and Northern is also good experience. Next Sunday (26 November), there’s a Home Northern and a Home Prem (both at Beckett), so you can watch good quality netball between 10:30 and 1:30!!! Anyone who wants to help score or time Prem would be welcome!!!!

Other things - Our coaches have a meeting coming up where they’ll review the season to date and plan ahead. We have another few players injured recently, so here’s wishing all our players speedy and sustained recovery. The Team manager guide and accident reporting forms will be in the Website soon if anyone needs them. Thanks to Louise for organising kit, great to see the younger girls in their new dresses!

That’s it folks, remember to follow on twitter and like on Facebook, as that’s a much quicker route to regular information.

Passing on the usual thanks to our coaches and team Admin, all efforts appreciated otherwise all these athletes wouldn’t have the opportunities they have!

News Update #12

Here is a round up of recent developments:

Recent performance
Mixed set of results in the last week or so. Losses for our Prem side who compete in the top national amateur league, means we need a couple of wins in the next two weeks to avoid propping up the league table! Our Northern and WY Senior squads both continue their unbeaten runs, and hold the position at the top. Our senior regional squad lost a close game last weekend. Netball Nights have been doing well, but our young team have met some strong opposition.

We haven't had any junior league games for a few weeks, but the coaches and parent helpers have worked hard to arrange friendlies for each age group against local and out of area teams. These have been great to ensure continued match play, so thanks for all the work to make these happen. Work continues to try and arrange friendlies during the next "gap" in the calendar during December for junior matches to try and ensure that squads get their continued matchplay.

Parent/carer behaviour
At risk of sounding boring and repetitive, please can I ask parents to consider their approach to discussing issues about Leeds Athletic. We've had reports again recently about parents "complaining" or giving their opinion to the age group admin supports or other parents, often within earshot of the athletes. Please consider the effect of this can have on athletes where these comments are negative or a parental opinion. If you have an issue, please raise it directly with the coach. But please bear in mind the coaches actions will be informed from a Club perspective rather than a perspective about an individual athlete (which we inevitably have as parents)!

Training - Thursday 9 November
Please note that there is no U12 training at Gateways on 9 Nov, because there is a big bonfire event there. Please can athletes go as follows: U12 & U13 to GSAL for 5:45-7:45pm with Libby and John; U14 & U15 to GSAL for 7:45-9:45pm; U16 with seniors at Beckett. This is for one week only, but it will allow the girls to be in a different context with some different players.

Looking ahead

We have a full set of fixtures this weekend, so busy for everyone. It is our prem squad who are at home this weekend - Beckett 12:30 if anyone is free to watch and support.  Our roll of honour will be on the website soon, thanks to Keeley and our admin supports for collating.
