RESULTS
We are at the midpoint in the season! Hard to believe! Lots of results have gone our way, some haven’t! Massive thanks to committee members, parent helpers, and most particularly coaches who work so hard in order that the athletes benefit from great sporting opportunities!

In Juniors, congratulations across the board: U16 won the WY league; U14A came 2nd, with U14B taking 3rd place; U12A coming 1st, with U12B taking 2nd; U12C also topped their league even though they are a year or so young! U14/16 now progress to the Regional round, and for U12 it is the business end of the season with the Regional competition to qualify for! HiFive U11 league starts after Xmas. Registration deadline for Regional Juniors is 5th January, so we may not communicate A and B for U14 until after evening training on 5th January. For U16&14A, Regional Matches are on the google calendar, please can you make a note in your diary.

In Seniors, some tough matches for our very young players. We have lost two prem matches recently and one Northern match. We continue unbeaten in WY senior league. Senior Regional finished the pre-Xmas matches with a good win on Sunday.

INTERNATIONAL MATCH
Don’t forget to book tickets for the New Zealand vs England Match on 2 February in Liverpool.

IMPORTANT REMINDER – CODE OF CONDUCT, PHOTOGRAPHY AND SOCIAL MEDIA
Sorry to nag about this, but…….the club’s reputation is dependent on the behaviour of athletes, coaches and their families/supporters. Please remind yourself and the athletes about the code of conduct, so that we avoid complaints against the Club. This includes things like commenting on athletes/umpires etc. Please also be careful with photography, video and social media.  Although well intended and helpful to promote the sport, this can backfire if the right permission hasn’t been sought. Err on the side of caution and just put shots of our athletes, as we have had permission from everyone.

ADDITIONAL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
We could do with an Assistant Safeguarding Officer to help support Susie, especially on the social media side, probably needs about a couple of hours a month, once the policies are refreshed and communicated. Ideally someone familiar with social media and who may liaise between athletes and coaches etc. Contact Susie if you are interested.

YORKSHIRE NPL SQUAD
The Yorkshire NPL Squad has recently been announced, congratulations to the following athletes who are either a member of that fifteen strong U19 squad, or one of four training partners. Amy M, Louise M, Maisie B, Jessie D, Gwyn W, Georgia P, Molly B, Lexy S, Laura K, Chloe S, Lucy B, Charlotte M, Hannah G. Anna, Maggie, Jan and Alex Kirk coach this team, who will play their matches against teams from SuperLeague franchises in January and February. Good luck to them all.

SAVE THE DATE
Friday 19 May, for our end of season awards, at Leo’s Rugby Club.

NEW TRAINING ARRANGEMENTS
We tried the new training arrangements Thursday for U14/16/seniors for the 4 weeks before Christmas, and we anticipate training will follow roughly this pattern after Christmas, but Anna and Maggie are meeting on 3 January to review and plan the best approach for these sessions. We will be in touch after that.

HOLIDAY PERIOD
There will be very little club communications between now and 3 January, as we take a break ourselves. Have a great festive period and here is to a successful 2017 for all our athletes individually and as a club! One of my jobs over Xmas is to continue the investigative work that Anna has been doing on a 2018 Australia Tour and U12 are looking into the Disney Tournament for 2017. Exciting times.

Thank you
Mariana

PERFORMANCE
Not a bad weekend at the office, starting with Seniors. Big win for WY seniors against Shipley; great win for our Premier against Turnford; and a very good win for our young Northern side against Brigg. Solid performances across the board, well done all. In Juniors, our U14A and U16 teams both won key games to ensure they qualified for the Regional Round after Xmas and encounter to qualify for Nationals. Our U14B lost, but learned a lot and are doing well in the top WY league, promising for the phase of the league after Xmas.

RULES
Please remember to keep a note of quarters played, especially for those playing between senior leagues. If you get selected for a match you're not eligible for, please say so! Remember, you should be familiar with the rules of leagues you are playing in!

ENGLAND ROSES
As we're in the middle of a test series, it is worth encouraging club members to go to Liverpool on 2 February when England play New Zealand. Although this is a Thursday and athletes I'll miss training, it is worth the opportunity to see a game live (especially Silver Ferns) and learn from that.

LOOKING AHEAD
Not many matches left before Xmas now. WY Seniors have finished, both U14&16s have finished. Next weekend sees all 3 x U12 play, plus Northern league against the top team Chevrons, and Premier play at home against Viper10. Go and support the Prem Team if you can, 11:30 start at Beckett next Sunday. Senior Regional play on 18 December as well!

Training times are on the website. Last Tuesday session is 13 Dec, last Thursday session is 15 Dec, last Sunday is 18 Dec. Training commences 3rd Jan, 5th Jan and 8th Jan respectively. Matches commence 8 Jan, with a netball nights on 4 Jan! Junior matches will be on the website between Xmas and New Year once we get them, including our u11s entering HiFive!!

AGM
We will confirm the date for the AGM soon, we are aiming for January.

Thank you. Remember, get in touch with Susie if you want to get involved in coaching or umpiring! Thanks for your support etc!

Quick midweek special

Just to let you know that the club has been awarded Silver CAPS award, this is the Club Action Planning Scheme for England Netball, to help clubs deliver in line with best practice in all aspects such as safeguarding, coaching, and communication.  This is a significant achievement, in this assessment, only 10 clubs from 34 passed the required level with their portfolio. I want to thank Susie Stead for her determination to get this completed in the last few months, it is a very onerous process in terms of the evidence that has to be provided. There are others both on and off court who have helped, but we wouldn’t have achieved this if it wasn’t for Susie. Thanks and well done!

In other news, we had mixed fortunes at the weekend. All our younger teams won, U16 lost by 1 in their league game, and premier lost by 1 as well.  In two games against Scotland U17, our U16 teams both won, which was excellent. Our young netball nights won this week, turning around their fortunes after a couple of narrow losses.

Looking ahead, a reasonably busy weekend of matches ahead, although most leagues now into their last few matches before Christmas. On Saturday, WY play Shipley Swifts. On Sunday, Premier are away at Turnford, Northern League at home to Brigg, U16 and U14A both play Terriers, U14B play Kingston. These are the last matches for u14 and u16. U12 have matches on 11th and we still have a few senior matches. We are into the last few training sessions, with our new approach being used for U14 and above.

We are also doing a Charity collection of Food etc, a “reverse advent calendar”! This will be promoted by age group admin and there will be collections at each site. Watch this space, but look in your cupboard for something you can bring!
