News Update #16

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Last update for the year, there was more netball left than I thought! And more successes!
  • Big win for Senior Regional last Sunday vs Harrogate Phoenix and Maggie a happy coach because of a good performance as well.
  • Another excellent win for Northern League on Monday in the postponed game vs Stormers, and again Jan happy with the girls.
  • And another excellent win against a tough team in Netball Nights in the last game of the year, with Mark being very happy with the team performance of the youngsters (supplemented by a couple of seniors who were able to stand in and help support the team to victory)

In terms of our athletes in representative squads, here's some info especially for those not on Twitter! Lots of our athletes played for Yorkshire age groups against Mavericks last weekend, mixed results, but good runs out, so well done everyone. Our athletes have also been in friendlies for a number of NSL squads, and Lightning U21/19 and Wasps U21/19, so again, well done. Updated Roll of Honour lists will be on the website where there are any changes! It’s impressive, take a look! Seven of our athletes were at Roses National Academy Camp at the weekend, including fitness testing and Christmas meal. Let’s hope the Quad Series Roses Squad that is announced today contains some players/former players!

Netball admin continues to be busy, with fixtures and registrations for the second half of the year. Senior fixtures are already all on the calendar. Junior fixtures will be put on the Google Calendar as we get them and team admin will be in touch for availability during the break. The Junior Regional fixtures are available, West Yorkshire Junior fixtures will probably be available after Xmas!

Massive thanks to all our coaches and team admin/backroom helpers for making the Club run and be able to get all those teams on court each week with so many good results and also so many athletes doing so well in their respective age groups/pathways etc. Also great to see the continued development of our coaching team as well, learning for themselves so that they bring that learning back to help develop our athletes.

Here’s to a successful netballing 2018!  The season gets going the first week in January, with plenty of matches on 7 Jan, use the Google Calendar for info!

News Update #15

Two weeks’ worth of update in one, as we head towards “closedown” for the festive season. This may be the last update of 2017, as we all try and have a bit of “downtime” from netball!
We had a superb weekend for club on 2/3 Dec with wins for all League fixtures in that week from Prem through to our young U12C who play up a year and Netball Nights in the adult league. Big credit to our coaching team, thanks to them all for preparing our athletes to be the best they can be. League tables can be accessed from Update 14 links, these show a pretty strong position across all the leagues we play in! Well done everyone.

Junior League fixtures are almost completely finished now. The U12 matches this weekend were postponed due to the weather. U16s have done really well with friendlies and had another this weekend vs Grangetown, which they won and was a great opportunity for the girls. U14 had to cancel their friendly this weekend due to the weather! Prem lost to top of the table Oldham today. Northern League game was cancelled. WY Seniors won on Saturday and Netball Nights won again on Wednesday. Just two senior fixtures left, next Sunday sees a Regional League fixture against Harrogate Phoenix and the postponed Northern League will take place on 18 Dec. Good luck!

Training finishes this week, use calendar for info. Starts again first week in January. Straight back to fixtures on 6/7th January. NSL and NPL (U21&U19) competitions will be starting soon, with loads of our athletes competing. Let’s wish them good luck in the various teams where we are represented, including Bath, Wasps, Team North and Loughborough Lightning for NSL, and Wasps, Loughborough Lightning and Yorkshire for NPL U21 and U19. Rhinos will also have fixtures and another Festival in February. For schools, there’ll be the Regional and national schools competitions as well, or the college competitions. Well done to those securing a place with the GB Association of Colleges representative squad.

For those in Roses, or who follow Roses, there’s the Quad Series and the all-important Commonwealth Games in April, where we’ll maybe see current and/or former athletes. For Roses National Academy, there’ll be selection for U17 Netball Europe and the U19 tour.

Congratulations to Maggie our U16/seniors coach, appointed as a selector for Roses. A huge honour and well deserved given her playing and coaching credentials. This adds to Anna with her role as a Roses National Academy selector. With both these coaches also working with international athletes at Lightning, the level of their experience and ambition they bring to Club is second to none. Jan, with her unbeaten run in Northern, is also coaching Loughborough U21, so continuing her learning at the top end of the game. All our other coaches are all working on their development and education, and all doing a superb job. Last week a few of them spent the evening with Brian McDermott, the very successful Leeds Rhinos head coach. Feedback was that this was inspiring and thought provoking!

Coaches will be reviewing squads as we move into the New Year, we will be in touch over the festive break!  We are entering even more Junior Teams into leagues after Xmas! And our countdown to Australia is moving fast, with just over 7 months until we travel! Please keep using twitter and facebook for sharing info about the athletes!

Huge thanks to all those that make the Club work, whether that is on court or off court. Since end September, we have played about 85 games of netball, which does take some organising to ensure that all the athletes are prepared, the paperwork is done, players turn up at the right time, and people score/timekeep etc. Have a good break!
