News Update #18

13/2/2017

Short update today, think this is maybe the third in a week so I am probably overloading you, but there is a lot going on at Club!

RESULTS
Not a bad week at the office. Netball Nights had a great win on Wednesday, close game, but our youngsters stole the win. West Yorkshire Seniors had a big win yesterday, maintaining their unbeaten run. U14 and U16 both had really good wins today in their Regional Round, which keeps them on track for nationals qualification. Prem got close in parts of their match against The Downs today, but lost in the end, Prem 1 is such a tough league. Our young Northern League team won against an experienced Oaksway by just one goal in the dying seconds, showing real character. Thanks to Jan, Maggie and Anna who covered these games yesterday/today, having also done NPL with many of our athletes in Newcastle yesterday! No rest! Thanks also to Mark, Susie, Hannah who cover Netball Nights! Well done to all our athletes and coaches. Thanks to those posting on FB and Twitter

U11 TOURNAMENT
Real team effort to organise this today because there is a gap in fixtures and to get 7 teams of U11 playing matches, massive thanks to all those involved, especially Mark, Louise, Helena, Becky etc. Great to see so many girls enjoying their netball and playing so well! Good to have some of our National Academy athletes presenting the lovely certificates (thanks Steve) to the girls before they played their northern league game. Pictures are on our FaceBook page.

UPCOMING NPL MATCH
Yorkshire NPL U19 vs Loughborough Lightning NPL U19 5:30pm, Hudds Leisure Centre. Warm up game is West Yorkshire County Academy vs Lincolnshire County Academy, doors open at 2:30pm, £2.00 on the door. Encourage your youngsters to come and watch these games, they will learn loads and it's great for our Yorkshire athletes to have a crowd. They're doing well in their league with two wins and one loss.

FIXTURES
Quite a lull in Junior fixtures now because of half term. Not as many senior fixtures either during February. U16 and U14A have a friendly to fill the gap. We will maybe have a week off Club Updates!

LOOKING AHEAD
End Feb and March will be busy with - Club fixtures; hopefully a number of our athletes having England Trials on 11 March; a number of our athletes appearing in National Schools Finals in Hertfordshire on 18 March; Yorkshire hopefully being in later stages of NPL competition; some of our athletes attending England Camp and Netball Europe; some of our athletes trialling for places in U21 sides and of course some appearing in SuperLeague squads; and our coaches Jan and Anna doing Loughborough U21 and Maggie doing Loughborough SuperLeague.

THANKS
Usual big note of thanks to our coaches and admin help in each age group, too many to mention, but you know who you are!  A lot of effort goes in to make sure that our athletes have great opportunities and that everyone ends up in the right place at the right time etc!

AND FINALLY

And for anyone who isn't on Social Media, this week has been a big week for netball in the news with a negative article creating an absolute furore with lots of people posting under the hashtag #NetballOnTheRise.
