News Update #20

PERFORMANCE
Overall a good weekend, and a great midweek win for Netball Nights. Saturday saw a one goal victory for our young WY Seniors in a nail biting match, to maintain the unbeaten run! U12 didn't have a league match, so John took them to play against Chevrons, which was a great competition and they won one and lost one. Sunday saw the usual plethora of wins for our very young athletes, including a record score and some unbeaten runs! Our U14B lost, but partly because some of their players were supporting the U14A where there are some injuries. Our U14A and U16 both had good and important wins (vs Giants and HiLites respectively), and continued their unbeaten runs in their Regional Round matches as they look to qualify for Nationals.  Our Senior Regional lost by just 5, but again we are fielding mostly U16 players in this league to help with player development opportunities. Our usual thanks to coaches and parent helpers.

LOOK AHEAD
The next two Wednesdays see Netball Nights fixtures as the winter season comes to a close. Next Sunday, seniors have a Northern and a Premier match and we have two U12 and two U11 matches. The weekend of 1/2 April, sees probably our busiest weekend of the season, with every junior team competing, and every senior team also with a match! This is the last weekend for most fixtures, with just U14A and U16 having Regional matches on 9 April. We will be starting to plan next season and maybe consider some summer Club activity to keep the athletes going through the “off season”. We will be in touch.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE
Here are details of additional netballing opportunities for our athletes, through Elite Netball Camps (Easter and Spring Bank and Summer Residential/Day Camp) and Elite Netball Training Centres for the Summer.  Anna Carter delivers some of these sessions herself, with other good performance coaches also heavily involved. These are great opportunities for players to get additional individual skills and technical development that complements club/school/county/regional etc. Some of our best athletes have done these programmes regularly and have felt the benefit translate into their game.

END OF SEASON DO
Tickets now available from Tim Barber, I will email details later this week. Friday 19 May, Thorner Village Hall.

SCHOOL NATIONALS
Well done to all our players in their respective school teams, huge achievement to reach the finals. All met tough competition, as expected, and many Yorkshire schools were placed mid table this year. Just QE U19, managed to get out of their group and were runners up, well done. Gwyn, one of our seniors, plays for QE.

SUPERLEAGUE
Well done to our players in their respective franchises, and Maggie coaching at Lightning who are unbeaten!  Hope the younger athletes are taking every opportunity to watch matches and learn! Tickets are now available for the "Final Four" in June at the Manchester Arena, get tickets and support to show that the North loves it’s netball!! The U21 NPL competition will also be starting soon, Yorkshire doesn’t have a team in this unfortunately.  Anna Carter and Jan Hemsley will be coaching the Loughborough Lightning U21 NPL squad, who will be playing their matches prior to SuperLeague fixtures, and some of our athletes will be playing in that team.

INJURIES
We have had more new injuries this week, so again send our best wishes to those at the various stages of recovery and rehab. Let’s make sure all the athletes support each other through injury by keeping in touch.
