News Update #27

20/3/2018

Another snowy weekend affecting fixtures around the Region, our travelling teams to National Schools finals and the Rhinos Netball Festival. Well done to our players in NPL and NSL as most of those matches went ahead. See below for the usual update, plus our important survey results for developing the Club going forward.

Performance
Netball Nights this week had a good win 33-22 great to hear Chloe Smith and Sasha Bletcher were playing. On Saturday the Senior West Yorkshire Team beat Wakefield Wildcats 60-31, a convincing win with everyone on court, well done!

All the following West Yorkshire games were cancelled on Sunday awarding a draw to all teams because further rescheduling another round of matches was not feasible. U16 West Yorkshire Team v Wakefield Wildcats; U14 West Yorkshire Team vs Shipley; U12 fixtures - LANC 1 v YMCA; LANC 2 v Yorkshire Terriers; LANC 3 v Wakefield Wildcats; and LANC 4 v Huddersfield Giants. Northern League against Oaskway was postponed and will be played before 22 April.

We are getting to the business end of the season now. Senior Regional league has finished, only 2 Prem matches left, three Northern and a few WY Senior. In Juniors, we’re getting closer to the season end for WY leagues and for Regional qualifiers for Club Nationals. Senior training this week will be with Anna.

National Schools
Athletes from Leeds Athletic past and present were representing their schools this weekend. QE in U19s, Woodhouse Grove in U16s and GSAL in all three age groups. The tournament lasts all day, 18 teams in each age group from schools country wide, two teams from each Region, play matches 7 minutes each way. Firstly each team play in one of two pools, playing 8 matches in a league format. First and second place in the group going through to knock out semis and then finals or third fourth place play off. Well done to Woodhouse Grove who battled through the dreadful weather conditions and made the semi-finals eventually being placed 4th and well done to QE who were winners in the U19s
- congratulations an amazing achievement. Well done to all the parents and coaches who stood through the day supporting athletes, in freezing temperature, with snow and wind! Not great netball conditions!

Spectate
There is now a gap in Super League fixtures whilst the Commonwealth games is on, so the next matches start again on 21 April. There is international netball on Sky and BBC during this period. There are plenty of NPL games being played in the gap, at both U19 and U21 age group level, so lots of our athletes will be appearing in those matches. Good luck to everyone.

Survey
Thank you for responding to the survey. We know that it has been a fragmented season in some areas, most notably seniors, where we have struggled against the backdrop of no Yorkshire Super League Club. We were keen to do this survey to focus on the areas where there is work needed to improve the club for our members, recognising that we are already a very well regarded club.  Although we were very grateful to those who did respond to the survey, and that feedback is invaluable, with a response rate of between 25-30%, we would have liked more responses! That said, it does give us a picture of those areas of satisfaction and those of concern.

Thank you to those who took time to make additional comments in the free text box, the praise and complimentary remarks are very satisfying and the negative feedback will help us to improve and plan for the future.  In headline terms, the survey suggested that almost 80% of our members are satisfied with the club, with nobody feeling it is disorganised or poor quality. Two people thought the club unfriendly, which maybe an isolated area that we will try and iron out. As we would hope, most people feel the club is high performance and we scored really well for aspirational, friendly and encouraging. Of the respondents, between 10-15% felt that the Club did not meet their netball needs, so considering the competitive aspect of a high performance club, this is not unexpected, but we will try and improve this score in future, please get in touch if you have something to offer with constructive remarks or assistance in managing the club.

Approximately 75% of respondents feel the club offers high or very high quality training. About 5% felt coaching was low quality and about 5% didn’t see the Club as being responsive to concerns about player development, whilst we would like to be meeting everyone’s needs fully, given the numbers of athletes, matches, training sessions in a year, this is probably not a bad outcome, and probably similar to other clubs. The results on value for money suggest the fees are about right for the level and amount of coaching. Around 90% of our members who completed the survey will trial again next season considering a percentage will be going off to University and a performance club is not always the right place for some athletes this is a good outcome.

Thank you for completing the survey those of you who did, we learnt a lot regarding how to use a survey and about our club. Taking this forward it should help with Club development and an improved survey next season.  Many thanks to Lyndsey McArdle for technical assistance with this survey.
