News Update #35

29/5/2018

A quiet netball week – that is unless you are an U14 player or supporter, or at the Wasps vs LBoro game on Saturday night! We must be getting close to the season end given we are on update #35!!!!

Planning already underway for our 2019/2020 season, although some of our approach will depend on the outcome of Super League and whether a franchise is secured for Yorkshire. We are hopeful that the impact on athletes and coaches won’t be the same as last season, you will have picked up from Twitter that Anna Carter has resigned from LBoro and will be focussing on netball closer to home.

WELL DONE
Our U14s gave their all in a true team effort at National Club Finals this weekend coming 11th in the country, this is a massive achievement and the experience is unforgettable, well done girls. Congratulations to coaches Libby Hodgkiss and Lisa Driver who have developed this young team throughout the season. Many thanks for brilliant organisation from Susanne Beale team Admin and Erin Hodgkiss assistant coach. Great teamwork too from all the amazing parent supporters especially those with the responsibility for scoring, water bottle duty, and tweeting.

Reflecting on the last few years of Nationals, it is worth noting our consistent qualification and our reasonably consistent finishes. This is the same with our U12s at the Regional Competition, we have always qualified, often won or finished in the medals.

However, as everyone knows, the competition at that level is tough, no easy games, very different to what our girls are used to, and arguably getting harder every year, meaning we need to up our game season after season as well, and do this within the broader context of a strong pathway.

‼TRIALS‼
Due to a venue issue senior trials will now be held on 5th July not 28th June. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT TRIAL ENTRY DEADLINES ARE APPROACHING FAST!!  GET YOUR ENTRY IN IF YOU WANT TO PLAY FOR US NEXT SEASON! There won't be lots of scope for late trials. Do remember to read trials information carefully to ensure you are fully prepared to help get the best possible outcome for yourself or your child. Eat well, sleep well and check you have your bag packed with essentials in advance. Contact Susie Stead susiestead@hotmail.com if you have any queries, eg late trial etc.

PERFORMANCE
There was no summer league this week, but both teams had matches at Netball Nights on Wednesday. The NNA team had a super win 45 - 14 v Titans outside on a lovely summer evening and the young NNB team lost 19 -31 to a strong Thundercats team. Super learning for this very young side, just getting used to playing in this adult league.

AWARDS EVENING
Tickets are still available for the end of season awards evening from team admins. Any club member and families are welcome. It is a great opportunity to meet your team members, mix with other age groups, get a better understanding of how the club is structured and see the players and coaches often mentioned in these updates. It is a fun evening with food included in the ticket and a cash bar. Everyone is welcome.

CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to our coaches Anna and Maggie who pulled off an awesome win Loughborough Lightning against league leaders Wasps in Superleague on Saturday, at Wasps Ricoh arena with a sell-out crowd. Few of our current and former athletes in action across both sides, and particularly sisters Rosie and Lucy Harris appearing in opposite sides!

#ShowUp
This newsletter is designed to keep our members informed about club matters, performance and celebrations. This year it has been used to encourage our members to watch our sport live in Superleague, the performance pathway and club matches. It is a great way to enjoy sport as a family, to develop player and parents understanding of the game, improve performance and have fun for little or no cost. Junior players particularly benefit from watching.
Sky Sports recognise these sentiments and are giving away over 5000 tickets this summer to view women’s sport. It’s about getting people along to events to see what they're like, to drive that conversation. And a change in culture, in getting people to follow more regularly, boosts engagement and participation amongst people of all ages. Included in this initiative Sky Sports and the Women’s Sport Trust are asking you to take to social media and let them know how you are going to show up, what are you attending or going to watch this summer? #ShowUp @SkySports @WomenSportTrust This campaign complements the Campaign in Australia called #WakeUpNetball There have been some cracking matches to watch over there, including those featuring some of the Roses.

And finally.....

We are just checking that we can still communicate in this way in light of the new GDPR.
