News update #4

24/9/2018

Season started in earnest yesterday with some Senior and Junior fixtures! Big thanks to the team of admin and coaches who ensured everyone was affiliated/registered and that players turn up to the right place at the right time, with the right equipment etc! Running more than a dozen teams, this is no mean feat!!!

Great to get so many athletes out at games, even more will be out next weekend! Great to have some new athletes wearing the black and blue for the first time and to have existing athletes moving up into A squads or higher level senior squads!

Results
Prem squad lost to a strong New Cambell. Tough League to play in, squad needs time to settle and get to know each other.

Excellent 3 goal win for Northern in a game that could have gone either way. Well done.

Wins across the board for all Junior teams, including some big wins and some narrow wins. Plenty of players making their debut today, well done!

Our Facebook Page is the best place to see individual results, who played, and often a team picture! Back to training this week, before a busy weekend of fixtures next weekend and Netball Nights cup games during the week.

Reminders - Please can I point people to the practical reminders in update 3 from last week, if you have still to pay/source kit etc, please get in touch this week http://www.leedsathleticnetballclub.org.uk/news

Here is the first update of the new season! Where has the summer gone! Summer training continues on a Thursday for U14 and above, and on a Sunday for our youngsters!

Well done to athletes selected for Rhinos Academy and Elite Squads, exciting to see a high quality pathway being delivered as part of a professional sports club

  • Please don’t ask a question until you have checked the website! All our Admin are volunteers!

WELL DONE
  • Well done to our athletes (and Francine) who competed (and coached) at the School Games, amazing experience.
  • Well done and continued good luck to all our athletes trialling for the various age groups and various franchise squads and for county.
  • We encourage all athletes to be part of a pathway and to get additional training where they can eg Rhinos, for Hubs and for Minis. You will see some of our older performance athletes coaching/support coaching at these, so it is a good way to learn from a young age! (http://www.leedsrhinosnetball.co.uk/mininetball-2/ & http://www.leedsrhinosnetball.co.uk/traininghubs/
  • At some point we will do our usual roll of honour in a few weeks time!  It will be a long list I expect, as ever!
  • Well done and good luck to those doing well in exams and those off to University! Keep in touch and play the off Netball Nights when you are back in Leeds!
  • Well done to those progressing the umpiring course you took a few months ago!

NETBALL NIGHTS
Our Netball Nights squads continue to get great matchplay on a Wednesday, win or lose, excellent opportunity for younger athletes to play with older athletes!!

UMPIRING
Well done to our players and parents who did the umpiring course, GoMammoth need umpires, so get in touch with kate@gomammoth.co.uk if you are interested.

KIT
Polite reminder – please wear right kit for training. Black shorts/leggings (not undershorts for U14 and above) and any black top or a LANC blue top. Please only wear undershorts under a dress for U14 and above.

THANKS!
Thanks to all our coaches and volunteers, this is a busy time of year for the administration aspect, booking venues, sorting fees, affiliating players, checking fixtures, restocking kitbags etc etc!

Here’s to a superb season for Leeds Athletic! Good luck to everyone in matches next week. Our U12s had a great friendly vs Kingston today and some of our seniors are giving Shipley a game on Tuesday.
