TWO WEEKS OF PERFORMANCE
Leeds Athletic West Yorkshire Superleague Seniors, played Alliance and won, thanks to Libby for coaching. Northern League played Brigg and with a cracking performance and a tough game, came away with a win to add to their unbeaten record. Senior Regional league played against Calderdale and won again! Great to see a few U16s taking to the court in seniors, especially where they are learning from some of our excellent seniors!

No junior fixtures over the half term period, although our U16s did well to beat a senior Calderdale team in a friendly.  And just one fixture this weekend, for Prem against Oldham who have been regular premier 1 league champions in recent years. Unfortunately, we lost to Oldham who were very consistent and determined. Thanks to Francine for coaching and thanks to those younger athletes who came to watch!

NETBALL WORLD CUP

There is a competition you can engage in to design a mascot…..follow this link for instructions!

NETBALL PARTICIPATION, INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION, AND RHINOS
Incredible to see such figures where there are more than 130k more women playing netball or playing more netball since the Comm Gold 6 months ago. Great to see some of our athletes featured on the Look North and Rhinos TV coverage of the Rhinos Masterclass with Natalie Haythornthwaite. Here is one of the links for those not on social media https://youtu.be/NuWldJ27NCY .  Great to see Rhinos going from strength to strength, with some great camps last week and a couple coming up this week. Monday’s fun camp is sold out, but there are a few spaces on the Mini Camp, so pass onto friends with younger kids! Plenty of our athletes are benefitting from the new programme there and our roll of honour to show who is in which bits of the pathway will be coming after half term.  Hopefully some of you will have seen FastFive and are also buying tickets for the upcoming Internationals.

SPEEDY RECOVERY
We have a few more injured athletes this week than last week, but hopefully some gradually returning to play. Get good advice and follow the advice in order to make a sustained recovery.

GOOD LUCK
In a correction to an error on the previous update, we should have said good luck to both our National Academy athletes, Annie James and Georgia Pexton, who missed Club matches last weekend to train with England Roses National Academy Camp all weekend.

News Update #7

PERFORMANCE
On Saturday Leeds Athletic West Yorkshire Superleague Seniors, largely U18s, beat our toughest rivals Hi Tech 1 in a tense match scoring 53 to their 36. Thanks to Francine and Alice for coaching and playing.

Our very young U12 Team 3 superstars, who are bossing their league, this morning notched up a 36-0 v Birkenshaw Belles 2. They have a goal difference of 86 the second placed team has 16!  Well done to these youngsters! No games for the other U12s this week.

At U14 the A’s continued their winning streak with a resounding win 47-10 over Yorkshire Terriers and another win against our B team 48-8. The B’s had also been beaten 26-16 by a strong Huddersfield Giants earlier in the morning. Two tough games for them, but lots of learning for our young aspiring players who just never gave up. Great stuff!

The U16s also had a local derby match A v B, the A’s coming out on top, but the B’s gaining a valuable point with their very respectable score 46-26, closer than any other team has got to the A’s so far this season. This puts the A’s top and Bs third in the league. The B’s also beat Yorkshire Terriers 39-23 in style. Well done all!

The Senior Regional team fielded two U16’s who had already played in the first U16 match, a great opportunity for Ella Whiting and Molly Dexter to gain senior match play. A close game, not one for the faint hearted, but the final outcome was a 42-40 win to Leeds Athletic over Ripon Rockets. Again thanks to one of our longtime players Kirsty Hemingway who did a great job playing and also coaching our young athletes.

In the Northern League, our young squad of sixth formers had another win at home against a strong Concord squad who never gave up – the score line was 51-39. Thanks to Jan for coaching and to parents who helped score/time!

In Prem, we travelled about the furthest we go, all the way to Winchester, to play Weston Park Blades, a very strong outfit. We only lost by a narrow 5, having been all square at half-time. Thanks to our drivers, primary carers and also player/coach Francine!

Not to be left out, our very young Sunday training group were hard at work with Anna Carter today.

FAST FIVE
Many of us watched it on tv, but saw lots of our members court-side lucky girls. It was a display of amazing athletes showing off unbelievable skills. Try to find some footage if you didn’t see it live.  We had one of our current players, Anya Wood, playing for LBoro, and a number of our former players across various sides!

WATCH LIVE
No Junior matches next week, go to watch our Senior Regional team playing at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield on Sunday 10am. An amazing building with a big viewing balcony.

SPEEDY RECOVERY
We have many more athletes injured than normal for this time of year, so we wish all our injured athletes a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on court soon. Keep your coach updated.

RHINOS HALF TERM CAMPS &MINI NETBALL

Excellent additional training opportunities to help develop players. If you have friends who want to get their younger daughters into the game, then sign up for Mini Netball!

LOOK AHEAD
Next week just a Saturday WY Senior game, an away Northern Match and a Senior Regional at EIS on Sunday. No Prem game next week and no junior fixtures for about 3 weeks, so lots of opportunity for training and practice! Training continues over half term, no rest, although we appreciate that some people will be away.

GOOD LUCK
To our athletes, Annie James and Georgia Pexton, who are at England Roses National Academy Camp next weekend.

AND FINALLY…..THANK YOU…..
A big thank you to all our volunteers, the club would not operate as smoothly without you. New this week two Grandmas sewing our Velcro on the two sets of U16 bibs thank you both. Please offer to help if you can, if someone could take on the social secretary job that would be amazing!

News Update #6

RESULTS
Knew it was going to be a good day when the first result was in, U12A with a stonking 53-0 win over YMCA. Next up in the U12s was the B team with another great score line against Yorkshire Terriers 37-3. Finally in the U12s came the C team of mostly U11s playing in the U12 West Yorkshire league who had another super win 36-6 v Twinkles. Well done all.

Even the hot competition from Huddersfield Giants was not enough to beat our U14A team it was another great result 44-19 to Leeds Athletic. The U14B lost to a strong YMCA 23-13 but there was lots of learning and digging deep.

The U16A had a double celebration winning 75-9 to Yorkshire Terriers and 16th birthday cake after the match. And another win for the U16B who dug deep in a close match against YMCA coming out the eventual victors 37-32.

Netball nights had one win for B and one loss for A last week, but have had a great summer of competition!

Brilliant photos and match details can be seen from all teams on our Facebook page. Thank you to our parents who are helping with these posts.
No senior matches this week.

News Update #5

2/10/2018

Here is the usual update for all Club Members, followed by some more specific messages for certain groups. Please read carefully. If you receive as an athlete, please pass onto your parents. If you receive as a parent, please share with your athlete! Thanks!

BUSY WEEKEND
Busy weekend of fixtures.
  • Started with a WY Senior Game, where we only played with 6 players, mostly U16s and many playing out of position! But with amazing effort from the girls, supported by Maggie and Jo, we sneaked a win, by just 2 goals!! Great start to that league, where there are no easy games.
  • Sunday saw a couple of junior games fall to Clubs unable to field teams because too many players had caught the same bug. Most of our junior teams who did play, won their games, although U16B beaten by a strong Hudds Giants tea. A couple of very big wins, including a 49-1 for our U12As.
  • Sunday’s senior games saw mixed fortunes. Prem travelled over the Pennines to play Tameside, who always field a strong team, battled hard and played well with the final score probably not representing the field of play. Senior Regional won well in their first outing, and with some debuts! Northern League took their second win, this week by 20 goals, but in a match that felt more closely contested.

LOOKING AHEAD
Netball Nights cup games this week, good luck! Quite a few of our athletes are in the Varsity game this week, which I expect will be closely contested! Lots of our athletes will be appearing for their schools in the first round of the National Schools Competition on Saturday. Sunday is a crazy busy weekend for Juniors, with all squads out, but quiet for seniors with no fixtures at all on Saturday or Sunday. This is good because it gives time for our injured players to recover!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR JUNIORS
We have had this message from WY Junior League, and been asked to share it with all parents. As a Club, we are responsible for the behaviour of our athletes, so it is really important that everyone reads this message and complies with the request. The WYJNL code of conduct is on their website, it is similar to ours and the England Netball one. Please have a read http://www.netballwestyorkshire.co.uk/standards.html

Hi Club Secretaries, Coaches, Parents and Supporters  - Everyone’s support is needed with this matter.  We are two weeks into the WYJNL Competition and already we have had two incidents at two different venues whereby parents have spoken to opposition athletes inappropriately.  We totally understand it may well be a case of “six of one and half a dozen of the other” as the saying goes and we know as a Committee that parents do have a right to enjoy watching their daughters play and we do consider this when selecting venues.  To use venues with just balconies is not possible unless we extend the Junior fixtures till 4pm on a Sunday.  Therefore all Parents/Supporters must never harass athletes under any circumstances.  Everyone involved in Netball has a Duty of Care and it must be followed or Clubs and athletes will unfortunately suffer the consequences.  As a Committee we appreciate all Clubs may have already sent the attached out as part of the new season “Important Information” but it appears it may have not have reached everyone and may not have registered of how important this document is. Thank you for your support and help with this matter.  WYJNL Committee

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR SENIORS
It is crucial that you each let relevant people know about your availability/unavailability for games, especially on busy weekends otherwise we waste time putting squads out with players who have good reason for not playing and it causes lots of last minute work to get replacement players. Please let Jo Hodgkiss know for WY Seniors, Jan for Northern, Susie for Senior Regional and Francine for Prem. Coaches do expect players to be available for most fixtures, but understand there are some commitments that can’t be changed for netball.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR SUNDAY U11s

We have a waiting list for this group, so please don’t just bring friends along as they won’t be able to just join in. Don’t forget that there is an opportunity for training with Leeds Rhinos in Mini Netball for this age group to complement club, or for those on the waiting list as an alternative and to be practising ready to join club. Here is the linkhttp://www.leedsrhinosnetball.co.uk/events/categories/mininetball/

HALF TERM CAMPS
Rhinos half term camps http://www.leedsrhinosnetball.co.uk/camps/
and masterclass http://www.leedsrhinosnetball.co.uk/events/masterclass-annacarter/ have been publicised, although not all schools are on half term when these are on. Excellent additional training opportunities to help develop players.

KIT
Polite reminder – please wear right kit for training. Black shorts/leggings (not undershorts for U14 and above) and any black top or a LANC blue top. Please only wear undershorts under a dress for U14 and above.

THANKS!
Thanks to all our coaches and volunteers, it continues to be a busy time of year for the administration aspect, booking venues, sorting fees, affiliating players, checking fixtures, restocking kitbags etc etc! Big shout out to our new Team Admins who have kindly taken on the role to support the coach and squads, a crucial role to get people to the right place at the right time etc!
