News Update #6

29/9/2019

Club matters have started to drop into place this week, memberships completed, team admins are appointed, umpires booked, squads are taking shape and registrations for leagues all done.

PERFORMANCE

The Wednesday Netball Nights team had a close game against Titans finally losing 24-27 after a relentless outing. These girls mostly U14 with coach Alisha Levy are being well challenged each week in this senior league helping to develop their game.

On Saturday morning our West Yorkshire Seniors put up a great show against a very strong experienced Morrison’s but sadly ran out of steam in the final quarter resulting in a 43-54 loss.

Sunday saw lots of teams out, many in their first match of the season or ever for Leeds Athletic. The U16A team had another great result against Shipley winning 53-22. Meanwhile the U16B had a game of two halves, winning by 12 at half time after a confident performance then managing to hold on to a 2 goal win by the end 26-24.

Only the U14A scheduled to play in the 14s this week, they had an excellent win 42-11 with all girls taking to court and playing at least half a game.

Our U12A team had a stormer, beating arch rivals Huddersfield Giants 31-8 there must have been a lot of hard work at training to achieve this result. The U12B and U12C were pitched against one another in a well spirited match final outcome 27-8 to the Bs. The U12D team wow, pulled out a one goal victory 9-8 v Twinkles what superstars.

Back on to Seniors, our Prem 1 team travelled south to Gloucester for a match against a strong Hucclecote, in this top National League, a long way to travel resulting in a 52-24 loss.

The Northern team were also away from home at Oaksway in the North East, Jan Hemsley’s young team came away with a fabulous nerve racking 47-45 win.

DISNEYLAND PARIS
The U14s and U12s are looking to go to Disneyland Paris at Easter. Watch this exciting space.

Earlier in the week our Netball Nights team had a tough game v Shooting Winos. Lovely netball but resulted in a 25-34 loss.

Whilst the U10s were training hard at LBU the first round of junior matches were in full flow.
The U16A team displayed their talents against Huddersfield Giants the final score 46-21 to Leeds Athletic. The U16B team also faired well v Birkenshaw Belles winning 33-8.

In the U14 division it was another smashing score 39-9 for the U14A team up against a strong Huddersfield Giants first team. The U14Bs played YMCA 1 showing great resilience and winning by 33-13.

Our U12s had friendly fixtures against Birkenshaw Belles the U12A won 19-9 and the U12B 21-1. Great to have early competition at this stage in the season. Thanks to Birkenshaw Belles for the fixture there was outstanding play from both teams.

PERFORMANCE
Four teams of U12s were out at the Trafford Tournament on Saturday. For some of those travelling across to the North West it was their first taste of match experience. It gave our coaches the opportunity to see LANC talent in action against strong opposition. There were plenty of goals, wins, closer scores, smiles and effort, much had improved since our last outing in Manchester so big congrats to all four teams.
Prem also travelled West to Oldham on Sunday where the result went against us 39-51. Plenty of time in the season for this young team to improve on bits to get the win next time out.
Earlier in the week our Bradford Netball nights team had another super win 35-21. Then a draw for our Leeds Netball Nights team 29 all against Pitch Slap coached by one of our rookie coaches Jess Fox.

ALEX REID TOURNAMENT
Many of our club members were playing at the Alex Reid Memorial Tournament on Saturday. This is an fund raising event which also raises awareness of Cardiac risk in the young. This year for the first time the organisers had arranged free screening for undiagnosed cardiac abnormalities for all participants.  The tournament is run in memory of Alex, a member of our netball community who died of such a heart abnormality. More details about CRY screening is available here
