News Update #17

16/12/2019

Merry Christmas to all our members, coaches, umpires, parents and supporters, have a lovely festive season. Refresh and get ready to go again in January.

PERFORMANCE
Netball Nights girls had a tough game midweek against Leeds Lightning, they lost 33-21 but lots of learning, court time and experience.
Two great wins for the senior teams this weekend both playing Farsley Celtic. The West Yorkshire squad were playing a match which was rearranged due to a leaking roof. The girls were in the driving seat throughout returning with a 50-30 win.  On Sunday the Regional girls were consistent and in the lead from the off fitness proving the winning factor in the fourth quarter where our girls pulled away taking the win 53-35.
The littlies were great sports on Sunday exhausted from a 29-1 defeat by Birkenshaw Belles still smiling at the end having never given up.
Coach John Hipshon took his players for a friendly up North to Grangetown, coming off worst 35-16 but lots of learning and opportunity to improve.

KIT
All players from U12 and above should be wearing loose shorts NOT stretchy undershorts, for training. Undershorts are only suitable for wearing under a dress.

TUCK SHOP
Please can an under 14 parent offer to help with the GSAL tuck shop occasionally so we have it operating every week? It provides valuable income to go towards Nationals kit and is a fabulous service for parents, coaches and girls.

TRAINING
Please check training dates and times on our google calendar or with your team admin.

What a great photo this week on our Facebook page, of our youngest members having a pre Christmas fun netball session. Hats, scarves and even festive coloured bibs, good job our U10 coach Alisha Levi.

PERFORMANCE
Midweek the Netball Nights team lost 19-27 to a strong Thundercats. Not quite on their game in the first quarter making a full recovery of the score difficult despite much better 2nd and 3rd quarters.

On Saturday the West Yorkshire Seniors faced HiTech 2 in a battle which saw our young team victorious 38-30.
The Prem 1 team were supported by our U14 athletes on their Christmas social having Pizza and Prem at Leeds Beckett. The opposition were top of the league Oldham at home super netball played by both teams resulting in a loss for Leeds 34-69.

Away in Hull the Northern girls had a stormer against Chevrons in a very physical game, resulting in a good win for LANC 68-30. This extends the winning streak of the Northern team and they  remain top of the league.
In the U12 league U12B pulled off a tremendous win against YMCA 23-16 which placed them second in the West Yorkshire league behind our own U12A team. Great work from all U12s to achieve first and second place in this top U12 league.

Our U11s, U12C and U12D took to court on Sunday morning. U12C had a tough encounter with Huddersfield Giants losing 9-19 despite the loss there was some great teamwork and super netball from both sides. U12D played top of the league Yorkshire Terriers 1 starting slow but with grit and determination managed to get half points, 9-18 the final score.

The U12As were out at a friendly match against Hull Chevrons losing 15-18 but with lots of learning for the future. Thanks go to coach John Hipshon for putting in the extra time to support these girls.

News Update #15

2/12/2019

PERFORMANCE
Midweek our Netball nights girls continued to get invaluable exposure to senior netball and face tough competition in preparation for Nationals. All our top performing players have cut their Senior  teeth in this league at junior level. This week it was a loss 18-32 but 100% effort.

No matches on Saturday, but a super clash between our U14A and U14B on Sunday resulted in a 31-15 win for the A’s, although there was a great effort from the B’s especially in the first quarter when they were 3 goals up. Some superb netball on display from both sides. This final game in the first round of the West Yorkshire league sees the A team in top spot and qualify for the Regional round after Christmas, where they will battle it out for a place at National Club finals spring bank holiday weekend in May. YMCA beat Huddersfield Giants in this league putting them through for the second automatic place in Regionals. There will be a play off for the 3rd and 4th teams to qualify against 3rd and 4th placed teams in South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside. Well done to the athletes who have been part of the A squad.

The U12A must have terrified Wakefield Wildcats, 45-2 the final outcome, great first and second stage defence from all. This crowns the U12A as champs at this stage of the West Yorkshire League well done to everyone who has played.

Our U12B faced Wakefield Phoenix (1) in a back and forth game which saw us pull away in the third quarter and eventually win 23-11.

The U12D team played Wakefield Phoenix (2) in a game which showed great improvement from our Leeds girls as the game progressed. Final score was 12-8.

The Northern girls took on Brigg, in a real battle of determination and wit. Taking the upper hand our girls triumphed 70-43.

The Prem 1 team travelled to Dagenham for their game against New Campbell. A tough game after such a long journey resulting in a loss 35-60 was the final score.

SPECTATE
Support our Prem 1 team at Leeds Beckett 1.30pm on the 8th December. Free to watch.

PERFORMANCE NETBALL CLUB
There are many expectations on performance athletes, and our club is no different. Please keep up our high standards-
  • conform to kit rules in particular wearing black bra and shorts.
  • arrive at matches at the specified time.
  • get to training in plenty of time.
  • reply swiftly to e mails.
  • accept umpires decisions without question.

UPCOMING COACHING COURSES
Fancy training to be a netball coach? There are plenty of upcoming courses on the England Netball website.
https://www.englandnetball.co.uk/netball-finder/category/coaching/
The next two L1 courses are relatively local Beverly and Loughborough.

GSAL CAR PARK
Here is a message regarding the car park from GSAL-
Unfortunately I have to write to you all regarding serious issues around driving at GSAL and misuse of the roadways and car parks, especially the staff car park and areas outside the swimming pool and sports hall

There has now been several reports regarding people not observing the one way system in the staff car parks, speeding, double parking to drop off, overtaking when people are trying to park on the main roadway bays and some near misses with pupils and staff. This has now reached Health and Safety and Governing Body level which is of high importance and a major concern to the school and the implications this could potentially have.

You must inform your clients and staff that from January the 1st there will be zero tolerance regarding any breaches of the rules, we also may look at reviewed start times midweek and also no access to the staff car park if this can’t be followed and in the event we can’t make progress we may decide that the risk is too great and we don’t hire our facilities when school is in session, which is not what anybody wants

I am sure this increases everybody’s focus to make sure we achieve a safer environment on site for everyone especially the children.
