FAQ - trials information
Leeds Athletic is a performance club with big ambitions, so it does run trials for U12 and above, and these do follow the format of a trial for an England Netball development pathway, eg county. These questions are intended to help those girls and parents who are new to trialling.
What should I wear?
Dark shorts/skort, white top, white socks, hair up in black bobble, predominantly white based trainers. Bring warm clothes to wear between matches. Ideally no club, city, county or school kit. Bring drinks and snacks. There are no secure facilities at LMU so please don't bring anything of value. No mobile phones on court please.
What time shall I arrive?
Arrive between 20-30 minutes before your Trial is scheduled, there are no changing facilities so please arrive ready to play. If you use strapping, allow plenty of time to strap before warming up.
What do I do at registration?
Pay your Trial fees (U12-senior is £7, U11 festival is £5). Bring the right change if possible. Collect your number and pin it on your shorXts/skort so it is as visible as possible. If you're not sure of how a Trial works, please just ask and someone will help you.
What happens at a trial?
Each player gets a unique number and will be allocated to play in a number of short matches. Look at the Playing Schedule for your number so you can see when you're playing. You may be playing in several matches in different positions so keep checking. Copies of the Playing Schedule will be on the walls. Do a warm up where you can. Matches will run quickly so pay attention to what is happening so you don't miss your turn. We try to give all players an equal chance to play by programming all players into the matches. We also try to give players a chance at their chosen position(s). After your match(es), leave bibs and match balls in the relevant place on court so the next match can start quickly. Selectors will watch the matches and make notes. They will not usually talk or communicate with players.
What do I do if I want to trial in an age group above my own?
Players should trial in their own age group. The coaches will decide if it is appropriate for players to play outside their age group during training sessions.
When will I get to know?
At the end of each Trial session, selectors will bring players together and call out the numbers of those players who have been successful. Listen carefully. Unfortunately, selectors will not be able to give unsuccessful trialists feedback, as they will be busy moving onto the next session. We can suggest alternative good local clubs for anyone unsuccessful.
What if I am ill/injured on the day and cannot trial?
If you are ill or injured, please text Mariana Pexton 07787 403389 or Jane Moulson 07785 268577 asap. Please don't call as mobile reception at LMU is poor and they are likely to be very busy. It may be possible to arrange a late trial and you will be contacted in the next few days.
What happens if I am unable to make the trial date?
In exceptional circumstances, the head coach will allow arrangements to be made for a late trial.
Can my parent(s)/siblings stay to watch?
Parents/guardians/siblings may watch the Trials from the balcony of the Blue Hall (Junior trials) or the balcony of the Green Hall (Senior trials). There is plenty of free parking at LMU. No-one apart from players, selectors and club officials are allowed on the court areas. We request that all spectators adhere to the LANC Code of Conduct that can be found on our website.
What happens after I trial?
Successful trialists will receive an email after the Trials, linking to the relevant forms to be completed, and information on the website or in the club handbook. Training starts on Thursday 4th September for u12 and above, and on Sunday 7th September for U11. Fees will be payable at the first training session. Players not paying fees will not be affiliated, and therefore will not be insured to play or train.
