Match Report - Leeds Athletic 51 vs Ripon 19

Winning start in the regionals and an impressive one! It didn’t start too well, we were 3-0 down after being overturned too easily, and as we sort of began to get into gear we edged the first quarter 9-6 without really playing too well.

The Christmas break and very eager opposition were factors. However, as the match went on we found a whole series of new gears which, in the end, simply blew the opposition away. The main problems were caused by not having any player tall enough to deal with their Goal Attack as Lucy Burgin was still away, but switching Lucy Simpson from GK to GD and letting Ailsa deal with the smaller GS proved to be the tactical switched needed to allow the team to play with freedom as the defence got on top of the job.

In the third quarter Katie came on at WD and Lexy moved to centre, with Georgia taking over at GA. With the outstanding Molly at WA the attacks came thick and fast, and with Katie now intercepting regularly the opposition cold not live with it. The score moved on to 37-18. In the fourth the fast improving Lindsey gave Molly a well - earned rest at WA and the score moved on to 51.

Hannah weighed in with no less than 44 goals from 50 shots at GS! The performance drew compliments from both umpires and the opposition coach who said it gave her team a standard to aim for. Most importantly, it has put a marker down as to our intentions in the regional league.
