Match Report - Leeds Athletic 50 vs Wilberforce 14
Leeds went out all guns blazing: no shaky start for us today! A strong, speedy and accurate attack from Hannah, Georgia and Immy produced 15 goals in the first quarter. Lucy B returned from injury at the back and worked hard with Ailsa and Lindsey to limit Wilberforce to 6 goals. Katy and Molly replaced our wings for the second quarter, demonstrating the breadth of talent within our squad and contributing much to our 21 goal half-time lead. Wilberforce couldn’t match our speed and agility but they never gave up and rotated their squad during each break. In the 3rd quarter (after a flawless first half), Lindsey had a well-deserved rest, being replaced by Ailsa who timed her jumps impeccably. Georgia came back on to shoot and linked intuitively with Molly, who played so well against such a tall defender. Wilberforce managed one or two more interceptions but we still managed to win this part of the game 12-3. Going into the final quarter with a 30 goal lead, Leeds continued to attack with pace and the ball was moved smoothly into our circle. Hannah and Georgia continued to shoot very well against tight marking and our defence remained solid. The final score of 50-14 reflected the sustained effort displayed by the u14s today. Well done EVERYONE!
Thank you to John for coaching, Mariana for managing and Lydia for a super effort at time keeping – the umpires were very impressed!
A draw between Chevrons and Wildcats today makes a win v Hi-Lites in our next game crucial to secure our place at the National Finals. So, let’s all work as hard as we can with our passing, shooting and defending practice over the next couple of weeks.
