Welcome to the Leeds Athletic Netball Club Website

Welcome to Leeds Athletic Netball Club

We are a Gold CAPS status, high performance club, with our roots going firmly back to the 1970s. We have a team of highly experienced and dedicated coaches led by our Head Coach, Anna Carter. Anna was the founder and former Director of Netball at Leeds Rhinos Netball. She was also the Director of Netball at Yorkshire Jets and Loughborough Lightning and can certainly spot talent having had experience selecting for the England Roses Academy. She knows what it takes to be an international athlete from her own playing experience with the England Roses. Anna is closely supported by Maggie Burkinshaw, also former England Roses. Maggie is the current Assistant Coach Leeds Rhinos Netball, and former Assistant Coach at both Yorkshire Jets and Loughborough Lightning. She too has experience and works closely with the England Roses selection team. She herself has many international caps. Between these two stalwarts of the club they can certainly be proud of the number of athletes they have developed to go on to play not only in our National Super-League but also in Australia and at International Level. We are also incredibly proud of their continuous work role-modelling and developing our wider team of coaches, many of whom are still playing and/or have had experience of playing in the National Super-League or Premier League and/or coaching at a high level such as Premier League, NPL.

Behind the team of coaches is a very dedicated support team led by Susie Stead, who is also our amazing Safeguarding Officer as well as a really fantastic coach herself. The Team Admins contribute hugely to the smooth running of the club. Each squad has a Team Administrator who supports the Lead Coach on a variety of aspects such as squads availability, fixture lists, first aid, travel, kit, equipment, scores, league requirements.

Senior Competitions
  • Premier League 2 (this year we have a big push to get back up to Premier 1)

West Yorkshire County Junior Netball Leagues
U11, U12A, U12 B, U14A, U14B, U16A, U16B

Local Leagues - Netball Nights Winter and Summer Leagues
We participate in the local Netball Nights League where we like to support the development of our U14/U16 getting experience playing against adults. These fixtures are usually a mixture of U14/U16 and seniors.

National Clubs - Juniors
We have been very successful over many years achieving our place in the U14 and U16 National Club Finals.

Tournaments/Tours
We enter appropriate tournaments across the country at all age groups and regularly look to source friendly fixtures from teams outside the Yorkshire and Humberside area to build on our experience. We had a successful U14-senior tour to Australia in 2018 and another one is planned for 2023.
Our U12/U14 tour was to Disneyland Paris.

We are about to launch an annual UK tour in Summer 2022 for all ages who are interested.

Trials
Trials for U12 and above are usually held around June/July. Information can be found in our handbook - CLUB INFO tab - to help you decide if we are the club for you/your daughter, especially because of the standard and the expectations of a performance club. Talk to a coach, current parent/player or one of our admin if you’re not sure.

We do have high expectations of our athletes and we do expect them to be ambitious and work hard at their skills, fitness and game knowledge. We encourage them to take advantage of all the opportunities we provide to fulfill their potential and play at the highest possible level. We have Club members in the England system across, both National Academy and seniors, and playing in Superleague. We also encourage players to learn to umpire and coach, both valuable and sought after skills and experience.

We have occasional social events as a Club and in each age group and periodically support charity events. We are very appreciative of our volunteers at the club, if you are able to help please contact Susie on susiestead@hotmail.com. Please visit the website regularly and follow us on twitter (@LeedsAthleticNC) and our members only Facebook page Leeds Athletic Netball Club to keep up to date with what is happening and how you can get involved.

Here is to a successful 2021/22 season.
